Yeah, sage might be a better word. another depiction of them. They're like monks. Wears a different attire than the commoners and rich people. I dont know, but from reading the page they supported rebellions against Alexander. Gymnosophists
Could be, can't say for sure. But I think they look little more sophisticated then sadhus. Sadhu like people definitely existed back then. Greeks called them Gymnosophists. I believe those people on the reliefs definitely look like they're not ordinary.
Most depictions of Chanakya are like the image you have seen adi posted. But when I see 'priest' like people in the reliefs they look different. Example. Modern depictions Chanakya.
Here's a Buddhist symbol I see a lot. I see it used as standard, decoration, etc from time to time. http://en.wikipedia....ki/Three_Jewels Dharmachakra(Ashok Chakra) and the Triratna seem to be important symbols.
I wanna say it's wood with animal hide maybe wicker as well, but I'm not so sure. I'm sure they're painted in.(patterns)<--- I doubt you'll find much info about that.
Here are the shield patterns Enrique. See "a"? That's the pattern I see on most shields. Here are some shield examples from the reliefs. If you look closely the pattern is same as "a" shield. I've seen a lot different shield/pattern designs from that time period, but those examples are the most common I've seen. Here's another example.
You can only find existing colored patterns from Ajanta Caves. some examples However, these aren't from the Mauryan times. Look more for Ajanta Cave murals if you find them interesting.
Here's an idea. Instead of the grand arch which in my opinion looks a little off. Maybe add this gate structure in the front and back. With tall gates with spikes. ^^^ This image literally is a siege on a fort or city. Pretty darn rare to find something like this from ancient India. Basically squishing the gates together with the towers.
