  1. @Pedro- I actually suggested that the formations should be a possible technology too. I agree with you.

@FeXor- Don't think that I'm suggesting that infantry are going to render missile troops useless if my earlier post becomes true in 0 A.D.

There can be ways to put down formations such as Tetsudo, by disrupting their formation with melee troops, then attack with your ranged units. This way combat in-game would feel more strategic than simply charging in with your units. Depending on how well somebody can implement formations in-game depends on the creator.

  2. An old thread for a new post, but I want to say that I hope formations will be powerful enough to be relied on. Infantry units are not very useful in-game currently then if I were to use fast and ranged units. It would be fair to the infantry player if infantry formation bonuses would be very powerful. A Tetsudo should be immune to ranged fire, because if the units performing Tetsudo gets hurt from ranged fire, then there is no point to the formation.

  3. Maybe it could depend on the civilisation ?

I mean, I would rather imagine barbarian civs (such as celtic civs) destroying everything rather than occupy building. And Romans for example capturing buildings and train mercenaries rather than destroying. But this is just my stereotypical point of view, you history experts should be able to tell what would be the most realistic.

I hate the word "barbarian" to describe any culture or civilization. It was an offensive word to label anybody or anyone who are not similar to the ideal civilized Roman. Celts were very civilized people, even though they may had looked primal in some of their behaviors and clothing. Also, I don't really think that makes sense to make something capture-able given to only certain civilizations. Not all Germanic and Celtic tribes destroyed things, and not all Romans kept buildings either. For example, the Romans burned an entire Carthaginian city to the ground. A lot of structures back then were actually recycled for materials rather.

  4. I'd say we shouldn't think too hard about techs yet, they'll need some reforms when we are balancing the units, so it's a waste of time, yet. Michael's tree should suffice for now.

Why is it a waste of time? Even if something is temporary, it still makes an impact and makes the game more fun than without technology. If somebody steps up to implement more technology into 0 AD, it will most likely end up in the next version of the game.

    I'm just throwing out ideas.

  5. I got an idea. A Technology that allows you to pay in food and wood instead of stone and metal for City Phase. Another stupid piece of technology that allows you to train professional troops from Barracks. LOS (Line of Sight) would be a nice bit of technology to research too.

A technology with an example name "Innovation" would enable you to be able to train units from an enemy civilization. Or allow you to train units from an allied civilization. Or maybe if a player is defeated, and you have innovation researched, you may be able to train units that once belonged to that previous civilization.

  6. Should make a community event. For other games I've played, groups of small communities would play a drawn campaign map in the forums, and post where they move their pieces. I think we should try coming up with something. Say we play Lacadaemons versus Athenians, and players sign up to play under different civilizations. Hold games between players, and then record wins or losses that will affect the map.

  7. I think it would be cool to research unit formations.

Infantry formations should be the most powerful tactic in unit warfare. Some Infantry formations like the Tetsudo, should enable all projectiles ineffective against the infantry. Archer formations would allow archers to shoot faster, or timed, or allow better sight of targets. Cavalry formations should allow greater speed.

  8. Can do an auto-capture of adjacent enemy structures by building a Town Centre nearby. 2 ideas to throw out that can function-

    1) Building a Town Centre directly closer to enemy buildings then the enemy Town Centre, may auto-capture buildings.

    2) If an Enemy Fortification or Town Centre is destroyed, and the other enemy buildings are slowly declining in health, then it is possible to auto-capture the other enemy structures by building your own Town Centre or Fortification to capture them.
