  1. Vikings! My favorite subject! Some history experts like to think that the Viking Age began in 793 Lindisfarne till 1066 in the Battle of Stamford bridge. Although the Norse did build a colony in so called North America today, they were only temporary for a year or less. Not much conflict between different people, and this wasn't two great empires with large armies fighting for land and power; like the Romans or Persians. A little debate between Europeans and Canadians in a date later than 0 A.D. doesn't mean that this is a reason to include a South American or Central Amercian tribe into the game. Even if you decide to allow that civilization into the game, good luck delving into that history. I expect the Spanish had done a great job into destroying most evidence of South and Central American civilizations, and you can not get a great picture of that history without having to look at the Spanish Conquistador's and priest's point of view.

  2. I play a game called Mount & Blade: Warband which every piece of vegetation was static. But a DLC called Napoleonic Wars came out and brought animation to every tree and grass. I'm pretty sure animation in vegetation will not be a problem if created properly.

Or what you can do is when ever a unit of some kind interacts with a vegetation of some kind, it will become animated. Like if you watch a character walk through grass, the grass will move and then stand back up again. If somebody is chopping down a tree, the tree will rock back and forth and eventually topple over.

  3. It would make the game unfair and less enjoyable to play if one faction is affected by disease on a map and not other factions. So in order to cheat the system of disease to play fair, you can draw all the different ground textures in the game, place down every species of animal and tree.

  4. In a game very similar to 0 A.D., Age of Empires 3's Ranged Units all have a melee alternative. This way the fight stays in one location. It is also a little too broad to exclaim that melee troops are more stronger than ranged, because it does take years of training and strength to pull a big bow and shoot accurately. Bows also aren't particularly something you can pick up and expect to hit a bulls-eye. Not to mention the fact that archers tend to be dressed differently for different armies and different purposes.

  5. So even if two enemy cities border directly next to each other, there is huge geographical difference even if the map itself was based on one location in the world? Like the Nile in Egypt? Sounds like a bad joke to me. Lol

Of course a Mauryan soldier would find a Gaul war camp smelly and unpleasant. He may as well just lay down and die from intoxication.

  6. By the way, I really appreciate Omri's work. I think there should be another music: "getting ready for battle" witch is an energetic mix between relaxing "peace" and epic "battle". I remember warcraft II had these types of music and this really got me into the mood.

For the condition in witch to play: Maybe when one of your troops is being attacked by an enemy force, or even when in peace time, but you have really big force of soliders, elefents, ballista or whatever just waiting for your command.

Or it triggers when you mobilize your large army which I suggested above.

  7. I really like that idea, but what if you attack an enemy with one or few troops? There are those kind of people whom like to play mind games.

Edit: Mythos, that would also be a great way to hurt a player too is by constantly raiding his depots. I truly dislike having to wait and kill off soldiers in order to drain another player's supply of resources. Games would move along more quickly that way.

Though what happens if you built a trail of supplies to an enemy, and you order your men to attack? Would that mean that while my guys are fighting an enemy they begin to lose stamina and health because they are not nearby the supply line? That would be ridiculous.

The only solution to this is that you only need to connect your supply line to an enemy's border so you can attack without the worry of logistics.

I also agree to the losing of stamina, but not health. The reason is because people can hunt/scavenge/forage/plunder for food.

  8. As a general rule I don't think we want to complicate it more than peace/war music. That said I do think there should be audio/visual signs that other things happen, I just don't think it's worth creating new tracks for :) (And most definitely not complicating the programming even further :) )

My visual sign is when lag begins to start, I know the enemy is deploying large amounts of troops to attack.
