  1. I'm not sure whether you mean you like the grading system in Sweden, but assuming you do, I disagree with you.

Starting off with there only being 3 true levels. On a test, those are usually set at

    G-50%

    VG-75%

    MVG- 90%

A studen getting 50% gets the same grade as a student with 74%. That's anything but good, as it doesn't give a reason to try to improve (if you're at 50% you've got to raise yourself a huge amount to get a better grade. A lot of people won't bother with some subjects just because of that. It also works the other way. If you're at 90%+ rather easily, you won't have to study, and thus won't improve.). It might also worth noting that in many cases if a teacher gives a student a VG+ that student will then almost always expect to get an MVG - and also get it! Seeing as the +/- levels aren't actual grades, they should not determine how the grades are later set. However, since the students have obviously realized they've done something good, they will expect to see it shown somewhere (ie better grade).

The latest proposal is to change to a 1-7 scale, where the EU average should be 3.5. This would be some kind of subjective appreciation as well, but a standardized system would mean easier european integration.. I don't like this at all. There should be strict standards for teachers to adhere to, like the IG/G/VG/MVG system, so that all grades are comparable and mean the same thing.

How would that be more subjective than the IG/G/VG/MVG system?

The way I see it is that you're taking the old 1-5 system and just adding two more grades, as well as moving the average from being a classaverage to the EU-average. The last change is naturally the most important. I don't see the reason to bring in the EU-average at all, but if the politicians want it that way, they can have it. I just want to get rid of what we have now :)

Sorry for bringing this topic OT :-(

  2. I'm not gonna tell you what to do, since that's already been done. However, I'll tell you it's not a good idea to sit up late and study (I tend to stay up well after 1am to study, and trust me, it's not good). Get into a habit of doing everything right off the bat, and don't put yourself in a position where you have to be up late.

  3. If you hit ctrl+alt+del you'll see a list of programs running. If you choose the process tab up top (there are 5 tabs when I do it on XP, dunno bout other OS). Basically close everything you don't need. You can also see what's using up your system resources the most there.

  4. Personally I don't like the idea of limiting anything having to do with posting. I would say the answer to the poll is a yes though. Simply put, as long as it hasn't gotten to the point where it's "too big" you shouldn't limit anything. If the forums however do get to the point where they're simply "too big", then you can put limits. Right now it'd be more of a hindrance to the community than a gain I'd say.

  5. I know in aom atleast footprints hamper performance a lot. Not sure if they even exist in empires though (I don't have the game), but you could try that. Otherwise, just turn all the setts down until it works properly, then gradually turn them back up.

  6. Just some quick thoughts on this:

I don't think he won illegitimately. However, I don't think he should've won. Rather, the US electory system is apparently designed in a manner which allows a candidate with less votes to actually become the president. This I find weird to say the least. Especially considering that this also happened in the latest election. Not to mention that it discredits the idea of the US being the largest democracy (whatever happened to India in that case anyways?)...

  7. In Sweden we've also got voting from the age of 18 (so I'll be voting next time around :)), and also on a voluntary basis. We've always had a high voting percentage, up around 90% a few elections back. It fell down to 80% last time, but that's still relatively high.

Also, how many parties do the other european states have represented in parliament? We've got 7 (compares that to the US ;) )

Oh, and since Sweden's a monarchy we don't bother with any of those presidency thingies :P There are also localized elections, and those are held at the same time as the national elections.

Also, what's required to get into parliament in the US? It's 4% nationally here, or if you get 12% locally (there are areas specifically defined to define locally in this situation :D ). Which means if there's some party that has a single question that might be important for a certain area of the country they can get into parliament without having 4%. It's usually up north where this can even come close to happening (there's no such party right now...), as the circumstances there are completely different compared to the rest of the country. Anyways, just wondering :)

  8. That would depend on how much is happening, eh? Wouldn't be too fun reading something like ;

Today was another slow day, so I thought I'd tell you I'm gonna have a birth-day in something like 200 days :) Cheerio

    :)

Seriously though, move the link to the forums up higher, or make it stand out or something. Try to make it natural to join, or atleast check out, the community if you visit the homepage.

  9. And since I've got nothing better to do right now (I do, but I can't be bothered to do it), I guess I'll add some more in here.

Selecting units (and more importantly, cloning/microing)

The idea here being, making a difference between selecting one kind of unit, or many. So, here's my plan:

One unit type selected: AoK style. This is mostly used in battles I find, and for cloning vils. Seeing as vils aren't gonna be the same, it'll only be used for microing battles I assume. So keep it simple, keep it clean. Might be a good idea to arrange the units by health left?

Several unit types selected: AoM style. Show the icon for the unit, along with a number. Makes it easy to just have swordsmen or cavalry selected, which is always good.

Hm, that turned out less in-depth than I'd thought, but I guess I covered it all... sorry bout the double-post too.
