I would have to say that the time it takes to do the work is a disadvantage, but at the same time, it shows you that the person that is the perfectionist has a great deal of patience. Also there is a level of happiness that comes from knowing you've done something to the best of your ability and how much work went into it. The feeling is just too great to know that you can do some things better than others. Make you feel important and needed.
