niektb
Hi everyone,I just wondered: Are there features planned for importing terrain textures generated by programs like World Machine, Geosculpt etc.?Regards,Niektb
feneur
Most of them aren't likely to be compatible with our license + wouldn't they be huge/i.e. non-tiling?
sanderd17
Also, if it's software made, we should be able to do it too (inside our code, so without extra download). I think we only plan to include some more textures created by artists (when they are needed). We should also think about file size. I think there are a lot of people who don't like to try it now, because it could be a huge waisted download.
feneur
I've not used geosculpt, but if i remember correctly World Machine creates one texture for the entire map - which is very different from how Pyrogenesis does it. Maybe there might be a way to reuse it, but at least in the case of World Machine I seem to recall the license not being anywhere near compatible with our license. niektb
Maybe we could look at FeXor's realistic terrain demo and extend the functionality?Otherwise, there are plenty of terrain texturing algorithms:https://www.google.nl/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&ei=JwkJU8faHsWb1AXfjoDQBw&url=http://www.cosc.canterbury.ac.nz/research/reports/HonsReps/2008/hons_0801.pdf&cd=2&ved=0CDAQFjAB&usg=AFQjCNE-8jA34eftFuryvo4yOoDsOYIwsA&sig2=lm8cAFM3OZ1llxjWMejJ1g
FeXoR
Maybe we could look at FeXor's realistic terrain demo and extend the functionality?Otherwise, there are plenty of terrain texturing algorithms:https://www.google.nl/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&ei=JwkJU8faHsWb1AXfjoDQBw&url=http://www.cosc.canterbury.ac.nz/research/reports/HonsReps/2008/hons_0801.pdf&cd=2&ved=0CDAQFjAB&usg=AFQjCNE-8jA34eftFuryvo4yOoDsOYIwsA&sig2=lm8cAFM3OZ1llxjWMejJ1gIt would be possible to generate textures automatically but would also be lots of work (and would need changes many things already planned and implemented otherwise).
