Jeru Posted January 14, 2012 Report Share Posted January 14, 2012 We use the decimal system, which uses the digits 0-9.But there are other systems for writing numbers and they are common in computing for various reasons mostly related to how the hardware works. Binary numbers use only 0 and 1, octal numbers use only the digits 0-7 and hexadecimal numbers use 0-9 and "new digits", A-F, where A = 11, B = 12, etc.In octal numbers "31" is what we know as 25.
