erik_hobag
In AOE 2 gathering resources was a big factor. I loved it. How important will it be in 0 A.D.? On a scale of 1-10 how important will it be?Also... what kind of resources will be gathered?
Mythos_Ruler
Your economy is as important as your military in the sense that everything will cost resources. If Econ management in AOK took up 50% of your time (roughly), then in 0 A.D. it'll be more like 40% of your time. Our resources are thus:Population: Most units cost 1 pop. A few cost more.Food: Hunting, Farming, Herding, etc. We have some cool thing splanned for Food gathering.Wood: Typical chopping trees, but we also have bushes for some variety.Stone: Gather stone from Stone Mines as typical for an RTS.Metal: Our version of "Gold", but makes more sense to us as game designers. Mine Metal from Metal Mines.Trading and Bartering (selling resources at the market) will be a bit different than AOK too (one of Wijit's cool pet projects in the game design). I'll let you speculate about that. Similar, but different than AOK.
erik_hobag
Will there be taxes in the towns/taxation at all? Edited August 4, 2007 by erik_hobag
Mythos_Ruler
No taxes. We're going more for the AOE route than the RON route economically.
Radagast
If it's not too much work, could resources be stored on the map? That would make raiding tactics much more effective than they are in other RTSs. You'd charge in, raze a warehouse or two, then run before the bulk of the defending army can respond.Better yet, you could raid a storehouse and steal all the food, and then run away with it, bolstering your own supplies for that final push, leaving the hapless defenders without the resources to train more units. Mythos_Ruler
We have plunder. Kill a unit or destroy an enemy building you get plunder (this will be very important for the Huns civ in Part 2). You also get whatever resources the enemy trade cart was carrying if you kill it. Villi
Yes, but will you plunder from the enemy or will you magically get resources from the heavens?
wayspooled
Aye, would be fun if there was some nod to encumbrance. Doesn't have to be realistically modeled but 3 people with no wagon shouldn't be able to run off with a whole community's stored up supplies. Say if there were 5 allies in the area when a storage building was captured, you would get 5x emcumbrage but if there was a wagon in range as well, you'd get 15x. Mythos_Ruler
Plunder would be like 10 Food and 10 Metal... not huge amounts here.

c0d3::M0nk3y
I must say... im in also for the raiding idea... makes more sense to me... i mean, ok, im sure the plunder is a viable resource (you destroy a building, or a ship and it leaves behind lots of wood, etc etc) but the idea of raiding is also very cool to me
