Well, we're finally showing you more of the game now You can't judge a game just by seeing 3 greek buildings. I agree, the celts are looking great. We're going to revisit the Hellenes and change some of their art abit.
-
Well, "stone henge" isn't quite stonehenge, the formation of rocks is abit different and obviously it's much smaller. No, it's a Celtic temple. I'm not sure what the backing or reference behind it is, so I'll let Wijitmaker answer that since he designed it. About the sunset - we haven't had time to find the "perfect" colors yet, especially since this is really the only time I've been messing with lighting (which we've had for many months now, just haven't shown it). I did at one point but changed it back to that "grass patchy dirt" terrain . To tell you the truth, I'm not too happy with our alpha blending system. Though I'm disguising it fairly well with the choice of terrain I'm using.

Lol, which the public hasn't seen yet, Tim, you'll have to remember that

Wew, 2 new screenshots can be found on the 0AD Site to celebrate the completion of a 2nd batch of art. A "batch" is what the art department calls a massive collection of new art (in this case, about 100+ new art assets) that are completed and then put into the engine. The screenshots are showing off some celtic buildings which are absolutely beautiful. I gotta hand it to Wijitmaker, he did a spankin fine job on them. They look just as good as renderings, amazing job. The first shot shows a celtic village durring the afternoon, the second shows the same village durring sunset. Check out the screenshots Here If you've got questions or comments, post em here. By the way, just slipping a note that you won't have to wait another 2 months for screenshots again Screenshots should be showing up faster. Infact we'll probably be showing off the rest of the celtic set later on, and we've already got another civ and it's screenshots comming in very soon.

Are You More Of A Rule Keeper Or Rule Breaker?
Aeros replied to DarkAngelBGE's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
Rule Breaker here I love messing with people who think they have some sort of authority by making rules. Example: In early elementary school here, we're taught never to "run with scissors" because you might fall and poke your eye out. To me that is just rediculous, what're the chances of that. Infact, that's so rediculous why not make a new rule; called "Be careful when running with scissors". Now I would have no problem just abiding the normal rule, not to run with scissors since, well hell, I don't think I've ever been confronted with a situation to run with scissors in hand. However it's the rediculousness of the rule that makes me want to break it. Because one idiot had scissors in his hands and happened to trip causing injury to himself, now everyone in the world can't run while they have scissors? That's a terrible rule. Oh by the way, I forgot; here America is a very Rule-oriented society. I think it takes it's root in early age when children are clearly told what they can do and what they can't, and that's the final matter, no explaining why. People then become "rule keepers" and just follow rules without questioning what they are for. To me, that's a sign of weakness because you're sucombing to someone elses [poor]judgement and not your own. I'll give some better examples of stupid things that people have to go through because of a few idiots whining/complaining. For example, McDonalds now cannot serve hot coffee. Some idiot spilled coffee on herself and then sued McDonalds for making it's coffee too hot, now everyone has to have mildly warm coffee instead of hot coffee. No, the person can't have just waited a while like normal people for the coffee to cool off, they had to spill it onthemselves and win over a few million dallors while at the same time lower the quality of life for everyone else who likes hot coffee. I could actually go on forever explaining stupid rules that people have to follow because of a few people's screw ups. So yeah, I break rules. Pretty much to rebel against stupidity -
@fyuang 1) Anyone who plays an RTS competativly vs casually knows that micromanagement is key to winning. All the expert players are online are considered experts because of speed; how quickly they build villagers, how quickly they form a plan of attack and how quickly they get their villagers to act on that. For example, lets say you need extra ore (we're talking in 0AD terms now ) to build a seige weapon for an attack. You want to get that army out of your gates as soon as possible, some people would build 2 more citizen soldiers (male villagers) and task them on ore, while the expert player would take 2 villagers off food which he has a surplas of, puts those 2 villagers on ore and then creates 2 villagers to go back on food to cover for the loss. The result is that he'll get the ore he wants much quicker. So, considering the thousands of adaptive ways people have to tackle a situation in an RTS, an AI won't be able to handle that, not in your wildest dreams. It'll be more anoying then helpful, let alone borring if villagers automatically tasked themselves on stuff to do. However, assigning villagers a default "task criteria" might not be a bad idea - we'll investigate that in testing. What I mean is you might have one villager's class be food gatherer, while another would be a builder. If the villager that's a food gatherer ever goes idle, he will look for a food-gathering related task to do. We'll see if this'll be a benefit or hinderance durring testing. 2) We're aiming for the average game length in 0ad to be 30 minutes to 1 hour. However, since we'll be having many different game types (12 total), there will be game types that can addapt to the time you have availible so you can end up having fun no matter what. Don't want to spend 30 minutes building an empire? Fine, jump right into combat in city already made for you. Stuff like that won't be so uncommon to see in 0AD 3) Regular content and "bonus packs", whether they are original or community made, are planned after the release of the game - managed and downloadable through the game's pre-loader screen (the install screen). 4) I doubt anything will ever become that complicated in 0AD, don't worry 8) Actually, this gives me an interesting idea. What if we had a sort of "demand meter" that would show how much demand there is for a resource based on the ammount of it you spend durring a given time interval. Whether this will be usefull or fit with the type of gameplay in 0AD will be investigated durring testing. You see, us designers have our own ideas too, we're all waiting too to test them and see if they work or improve the direction of the game.

well, that's why it says " I was over there" Instead of "I'm right there" Because that picture was from when I was still aproaching the place. I was sitting ontop of the concrete wall/fence right under the arrow. Anyway I took lke 30 pictures, or atleast thought I did battery ran out after the first 2 shots, which I posted above.

Oh wait, I was on national TV for about 5 seconds when the Reagan-Funeral-mobile passed by. See, I made sure I was in a place where everyone could see me, sitting ontop of a fence on a bridge ontop of the 101 Freeway pics: and look, some patriotism -> Besides American flags, there were also alot of German Flag-waving going on too, people love Reagan and his Berlin-wall-taking-down abilities

How Good Are You At Multitasking?
Aeros replied to DarkAngelBGE's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
Lol, Counterstrike, tisk tisk. That game has claimed the lives of many people. Usually Asians, they die from fatigue or exhaustion from playing it all night. That and Everquest are the games that kill the most people. People who play Everquest usually die from suicide, they just can't handle it when they get kicked off their clan. I read that in another article, which I don't feal like finding. -

How Good Are You At Multitasking?
Aeros replied to DarkAngelBGE's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
If you can use a computer - you can multitask like crazy. There was an article I read in Newsweek a long while back that did a study on people who used computers/played video games against those who do not. The people who played games and used computers multitasked 50% better, and were 30% faster at reading and understanding visual information. We are teh supr hyumaans! -
I Have Just Reached 4000 Currency ..
Aeros replied to ZeZar's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
No, you have just reached 5,000 Currency -
That's why we have screenshots Those last 2 good ones I posted a while back are starting to look old too, hence theres some new ones comming up. But...It's hard, it's very very hard work. Sure anyone can pull off a few models or textures, or a couple hundred lines of code, but the reality is that we're going to need thousands of models, thousands of textures, and miles of code and later, scripting. The scale of things make this hard because theres too much stuff to do. As for an alpha/beta. We definatly are looking forward to having something playable by the end of the year, if our PASAP (play as soon as possible) plan works out. Which so far it is due to the progess done on the game. Whether you guys will get to see that is unknown and undecided. We'll decide when the time comes.

Text is good, background isn't that good Also the giant sunburst (that's what we call that big bright glare) are way too overused by graphics artists (along with scan-lines), the result being that you shouldn't use them.
