  1. The Greatest Canadian

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has been running a contest to decide who the greatest Canadian of all time is. The votes have been tabulated and these are people who are considered to be Canada’s greatest.

    · Frederick Banting

    · Alexander Graham Bell

    · Don Cherry

    · Tommy Douglas

    · Terry Fox

    · Wayne Gretzky

    · Sir John A. Macdonald

    · Lester B. Pearson

    · David Suzuki

    · Pierre Elliott Trudeau

The top 100 can be found here.

Personally I am a little disappointed with this list. Although Wayne Gretzky and Don Cherry are the best of their respective professions, they are not what I would consider to be great. I also would not include Alexander Graham Bell as he was born in Scotland.

If I were to order these ten it would be as follows.

    1) Tommy Douglas

    2) Lester B. Pearson

    3) Frederick Banting

    4) Terry Fox

    5) David Suzuki

    6) Pierre Elliott Trudeau

    7) Sir John A Macdonald

    8) Wanye Gretzky

    9) Don Cherry

    10) Alexander Graham Bell

You can still vote who you think is the greatest Canadian here.

This whole contest has really made it dawn on me that there really aren't any truly great Canadians.

  2. It seems that they have finally made a working EU2 to Victoria converter. It now seems that it is possible to play from 1066 CE to 1920 CE across 3 games.

    Crusader Knights > EU2 > Victoria

If they ever get around to making a Victoria to Hearts of Iron converter it will be possible to play from 1066 to 1949. I assume that if they do decide to make a converter it will be for HOI2.

  3. The highest possible rating is 700.

The highest possible rating, given the importance you assigned each issue, is 520.

You rated the Democratic stances 98. Democratic Platform

You rated the Green stances 194. Green Platform

You rated the Libertarian stances 22. Libertarian Platform.

You rated the Republican stances 77. Republican Platform.

  4. Sure, but a multiplayer game of EU II is a huge commitment of time and effort. If we do decide to play a game I suggest that we only utilize the following nations in a Grand Campaign.

    England

    France

    Spain

    Sweden

    Muscovy

    Austria

    Ottoman Empire

    Denmark

    China

Most of the other nations are fairly vulnerable; we wouldn't want any human players being annexed in the first 100 years. Depending on everyone’s skill level we may have to edit the scenario in order to give some of the new players a starting advantage.

  5. I repeat, regardless of the ease of installation or the safety of the modification a significantly large proportion of users will not install the modification.

Using mods to fix game deficiencies in scenarios really becomes a problem when mods change the version of the game, as they do with multiple RTS games. I know this isn't a problem with AoM (to some degree), but it is a huge problem with a number of RTS titles.

  6. I disagree. When you are tired of playing an awsome game mods are making it fun again. Also most mods have easy uinstall and install systems so they dont affect the original game.

Mods do add another dimension to the game and they do help increase the longevity of the game, I do not debate that, but from a scenario design perspective they should never be used to correct a problem or a deficiency in the game. If a scenario comes with a mod the average user will not install it, even if it is easy install and harmless to the game. If the mod is critical to the scenario then the average user will not play the scenario or they will play the scenario without the mod and a large aspect of the scenario will be lost, or the scenario will look foolish.

  7. I primarily design with Empires and Empire Earth editor; I have never really made anything of significance with the AoK editor. The Empire Earth editor thanks to its colour overlay system has an almost infinite amount of terrains to choose from. Personally, I find the Empires editor to be slight lacking in regards to terrains, but it has enough realistic terrains to get the job done.

  8. I didn't want the town to look destroyed so I only damaged objects to the extent that they didn't catch fire. I tried to use a lot of overlapping using damaged objects and normal buildings but its just didn't work. The normal buildings (Greek Buildings, had to be Greek it was a scenario about Athens) looked much too good. I also found the terrains to be lacking, there were no good mud or dirt terrains to be used in a city.

  9. Yees it would because itr started as one

My scenario EUF3 for Empires starts out as a blank map with only water outline details. I then use triggers to place everything on the map. I do this because by designing the map via triggers I can cut down on the total map size by almost half, which makes multiplayer transfer a lot easier.

It actually turned out to be easier to edit the map this way. If I decided that a forest was a little too sparse I simply edited a single object definition to make it a little denser.

  10. The AoM editor and the design of the game really do limit what you can create. If you want to create a scenario that takes place in surreal setting AoM is great. Everything looks perfect; in fact everything looks better then perfect. If you want to create something that takes place in the real world you tend to run into to some trouble. For instance, I was once trying to construct a seedy rundown town and I found it to be impossible to accomplish with the AoM editor, everything in the editor looks too good.

  11. You think HOI is bad, try EU II.

I use to take challenges submitted by other HOI enthusiasts at Empires Heaven; if any one has any challenges they would like me to try, please speak up.

I will then post an AAR in regards to the challenge and how I faired.

  12. Techs are fairly worthless if the player lacks the units to back them up. There are only a few techs that are really worthwhile; the majority of the technologies are just pre cursors for something else.

A few techs are worthless, but if you work your way though a substantial part of the tech tree you can have some high quality units. I have only ever worked through the entire tech tree once as Bolivia when I conquered all of the Americas.
