  1. Imagine every vertex on the map.  Lot's of data.  First, take the light position, multiply it by the inverse modelview matrix, take this and subtract the current vertex which will produce the object light vector.  Now we must take the inverse of the tangent space matrix (TBN->TSB) and take the dot product of each vertex's Tangent, Binormal, and Normal which will produce a scalar that will be the equivalent of the X, Y, and Z  components of the tangent light vector respectively.  This must be done any time the light, a vertex, or the camera moves(for the camera moving meaning rotating).  Not to mention you have to calculate the Tangent, Binormal, and normal for each vertex.  And then, don't forget to set up a cube map which returns normalized vectors instead of texels.  Now you set up the texture environment to take the dot product of the surface (the normal map's current pixel) and the vertex's Tangent Light Vector, not to mention the excessive blending required.

Ok, I'll keep my mouth shut from now on. :)

  2. I'm afraid a couple of the team members are in a funny mood and have decided to be sarcastic with you. We try to teach them not to do that. It's an ugly teaching process, involving batons and electric shocks. You won't believe the things that take place in the Staff Lounge sometimes...

Hmm ok... I already didn't get anything about the fourth dimension, but I thought he probably knows what he's talking about, it's probably some programmers slang... but it wasn't :):D

  3. No - only irregular and inexplicable maps will be allowed, preferably set in at least four dimensions with non-Euclidean geometry. (The game might be more lenient about topology if the map's storyline involves sponges.)

For graphical normal maps, also mostly no - they might be used for some effects (like water), but not for general terrain or units.

What are irregular and inexplicable maps? (I mean diffuse, glow, bump?)

But if you're going to use it for water, then why not for terrain also, because I think it looks so much better.

Yeah, I don't particularly see the need for normal mapping in an RTS of this kind. Just my humble opinion. Plus, do we really want to contend with the probable (?) performance hit?

Well I don't know what you will do with cinematics, but I think it would be great to have normal maps on cinematic models. But then again, how much time do you want to spend on it...

@TheRealDeal: Thanks for your huge explination. :)

  4. I discovered that I got some sort of secret connection on my PC... After a little Google search I found out that this SIXA thing calls a number and leaves it on for hours, plundering your phone bill. It can't connect, though, atleast it says it doesn't. But since I didn't get any results with the Google search on how to remove it I thought you could help me out maybe.

I did run spyware detectors, but they didn't find anything. I can see the SIXA connection in my networks but I can't delete it because it's trying to make a connection. I also don't know how I can close the connection, so I can delete it... The connection probably would just show up again, but it's worth a try...

Also I read about something like HijackThis, is it worth trying?

  5. It is a simple fact that Europe is dying. Birth rates for every single country in Europe (except for Albainia, a Muslim country) are below replacement levels.

Note that Europe has one of the highest population densities of the world, I think it's pretty good that population numbers don't climb that fast anymore. And eventhough the growth is becoming lower and lower, it does't mean that the population number is declining, it's still going up, but not as fast as before.

If Muslims in Europe are becoming so bold as to kill someone who disagrees with them in broad daylight (think Theo van Gogh) what will keep secular Europe from bcoming Muslim in Culture and Religion?

I really find this a harsh comment, the murdering of Van Gogh was an incident, not something that happens every day. It's not that all Muslims agreed with the murder, most even disagreed with it which I think isn't very strange.

Make it so that every Muslim family has to give up their first-born son to millitary service at birth. Then train these kids to be super-patriotic fighting machines, fiercly loyal to the state. So what do you think?

This is going out of the line, this really is a racial comment and I highly disagree with it. I don't think there should be a military duty, it's a choice you should be able to make yourself. And especially not if it's based on racial differences or religion. If you make such a comment again I will lower your reputation...

    Just something without the quotes:

I visited Istanbul 3 years ago, while I was there I found out things about the Islam and the Muslim culture which I never got to see here in the Netherlands. I think it's a great culture which earns much of my respect. I also think your "fear" isn't necessary, because we Europeans won't lose our culture, it might change a bit, become a bit more multicultural, but I don't think it's bad, I think it's even good. We're slowly going towards a global culture, one in which you'll find different parts from all around the world. But we won't lose our identity.

  6. I have no clue what it would look like...

Think about it: 2-dimensional cameras can capture one-dimensional videos.

3-dimensional cameras can capture 2-dimensional videos.

Logically, 4-dimensional cameras can capture 3-dimensional videos.

I would say just a 2d camera (the film I mean by that) also takes a 2d movie, which appears 3d...

And not to meantion that 1 dimention is impossible... (4th is just unlikely (for now))

Hey man, show me a 2-dimentional camera that can capture 1-dimentional videos (lol!!!).

    :)
