  1. My problem isn't that hitler was brought up, it's how he was brought up.

Much like the person who will put his/her homestate on their card. If they give it out to a person who is either from that state, or knows someone from that state, they've established instant rapport. Very subtle, yet very useful. You're doing much the same thing by equating their stance to that of Hitlers.

    I find that unethical

NOTE: I don't find the technique unethical, just the use of it in instances such as this.

  2. Are you a proponent of euthanasia? If so, you are like shizzle Hitler, as he supported and practiced euthanasia.

I'm not going to join in this argument, I just wanted to point out that I find these types of arguments to be unethical in a discussion such as this.

  3. That is certainly a good source of evidence.

Now ThugaMish I do believe that you're a relatively intelligent person, so I'm a bit confused as to why you would throw a strawman into a discussion that you're not even involved in.

I am allowed observations, just like everyone else. What I asked them to do was head over to the nearest library, like any other human being, and read up on it themselves(they did ask for resources). If they can't do that, well, not my problem.

  4. yes I do. Head over to your nearest library.

    men - testosterone. less estrogen

    woman - estrogen, less testosterone.

Go check out any research on the effects of testosterone, and the effects of estrogen(From the library) and tell me what you find.

You'll find that higher levels of testosterone result in aggressive, and dominant, behavior. Men are genetically formed to produce more testosterone.

The problem is that society, as a whole, tries to force an entirely different view on humans, and most young people are foolish enough to buy into it.

Even worse is the view a lot of young men have about what woman 'want' in a man. It took me years before I opened my eyes, but I started getting laid a lot more often too :P

  5. shouldn't? or have to?

Calling a black man a @#$% is illegal.

The thing is that words have more subtle effects than most people even realize. Mailman as opposed to mailperson. Garbage man as opposed to Sanitation Worker. Religious leader, as opposed to religious fanatic as opposed to terrorist.

The last was a bit more extreme(not so subtle), but it drives home the differences. People are weird, and you can influence their way of thinking in surprisingly simple ways.

I do think the pc thing is going to far(short people are now vertically challenged). That's not meant to change someone's way of thinking, that's meant to keep a short person from feeling depressed, as if that's my problem.

  6. As to your next point, boy you need to meet my grandparents then, the Women ware the pants on both sides of my family and both pairs have been together for 50 + years.

I seriously doubt that they're as dominant as you make them out to be, but I suppose it's possible. Realize, however, that's the exception, not the norm.

  7. mreiland I missed your earlier post, so don't think I ignored it on purpose.

It's all good ThugaMish, I just figured you saw the pointlessness of the subject, and decided to move on :P

Anyways, atheism is commonly associated with religion, like 'none of the above' is listed with some ACT problems. Just because its an answer of the test doesn't make in the same league as the other answers

And where does that put agnosticism?

Just because someone has devotion to an idea or philosophy does not mean that idea or philosophy is a religion

    Amen. My position too.

So where is the line drawn? Define it for me, because I know that confucianism(sp?) is considered a religion.

You can't. All you can do is define it for yourself. Some, like Mythos, are so aggravated with the mainstream religions(most likely christianity), that they refuse to believe that they are 'religious' in any fashion.

It doesn't really offend me when someone says atheism is a religion, I just find it a bit odd. The two are, at the core, complete opposites. Two opposite states of mind. If you still want to insist that atheism is a religion, than I suppose everyone who doesn't believe the Loch Ness monster exists is pretty much the same as people who believe it does, even with the infinitismly small chance of such a large monster existing in a lake with absolutely no evidence beyond fuzzy pictures.

Think of it like this. Black, and white, are both colors, but how are they related?

Religions try to offer explanations for what science can't (or tries to).

Except that religion has been around for a lot longer than science.

Yes, but I'd call Atheism a faith. AFAIK people don't go home and practice Atheism, or get in groups and practice Atheism like members of religions do - it's a personal attitude or belief - or faith.

Last time I checked, going to church was not a requirement to be a Christian.

  8. ahh but that is not what you originally said

    I guess I should clarify.

I don't mean total and complete domination, but in my experience most woman want to be the less dominant individual in the relationship, sexually, as well as everything else.

Nowhere in there do I state that woman can't be dominant. I also stated, however, that a man who lets the woman be dominant in the relationship is going to eventually find himself single.

  9. Design beforehand.

Test each module/function separately. Keep track of the different flows(execution flows), and make sure to test each and every one of them for the cases that are possible. This is a big reason why if statements are avoided, if possible, they introduce a lot more testing/debugging. Then test as you put them together. Sometimes you'll find a bug that you didn't find previously(something you didn't think of.) Happened to me just yesterday, as a matter of fact :P

    Learn your debugger :P

There's also siimple little tricks like output. Not sure if the program is actually entering an if statement? Put an output statement inside it.

These are but a few of the things that you can do to ensure your programs are as bug free as you can get them :P

  10. Also what do you say to gay and lesbian relationships then? Gay men should never get along as they would all be trying to domintate one another, while the Lesbian couple would never make desisions or take the lead. And this is hardly the case.

Now that's not quite what I said. I fully acknowledge that some men are more dominant than others, same with woman. Instead of getting righteously indignant, you need to stop and think about what I'm actually saying, and not what you're wanting to hear(looking for an argument).

  11. I guess I should clarify.

I don't mean total and complete domination, but in my experience most woman want to be the less dominant individual in the relationship, sexually, as well as everything else.

Any man who let's a woman walk all over him will eventually find himself single. Woman know weakness, and quickly lose interest, it's all just a part of the game.

av_nefardec, woman like to be dominated because it's in their genes. Even the dominant ones want a man to 'take control', or be the dominant one, it just takes a stronger man to do it(read: higher on the power chain). And don't get me started on sexually *evil grin*

That doesn't mean they want to be beat down, but they do want a man that can show them that they have basic survival skills, and a pushover doesn't have them.

  12. Tonto my point was that grammer is very important, especially depending on the context.

You wouldn't arrive at an interview wearing pajamas, and you certainly wouldn't walk in cussing, and using slang, and the reason is presentation. Grammer is an integral part of presentation.

Written language is basically the same way. On here, for example, you have a persona, and how you word things is a part of that, as well as how well you spell it(not quite fair to the non native english speakers, but that's generally what happens).

What you're talking about is changing the grammer just enough to shock the reader into a heightened sense of awareness of the events happening in the story. I've seen it, and it can be effective because it makes the reader concentrate more on what's going on since the rules are similar, but not the same.

But doing it every other sentence or paragraph would be extremely annoying and would quickly kill the content of the story as it would force the reader to continually concentrate on the form, taking attention away from the content.

  13. I had two points.

    1) presentation is just as important as meaning

    2) same meaning, different connotation = different presentation.

    think about it.

'her vagina has dilated to 5 inches'

'her @#$% has dilated to 5 inches'.

They convey the exact same meaning, but how many people do you think would react the exact same to both statements?

  14. I agree with most of your points, except the one about the woman being the one to choose. I think the man should have a say in the process also. Sure, it's her body, but the man will be considered responsible for the child from there on.

I agree, it's her body, but the ramifications of her decision cause ripple effects that go far beyond her. I know that if I found out that one of my ex's had aborted a child that was mine, I think I would be extremely angry. Never having been in that situation, I couldn't say for sure, but I can't even imagine the emotions that would involve. I would absolutely love to have a child. I'm not going to go out and do it on purpose, but, if the chance presented itself, I'd be 100% against abortion.

Don't get me wrong, I'm for legalized abortion, but for me, I don't think it could ever be considered an option. But that's just me, and I certainly don't think I have the right to tell someone else how to make such a big decision(Which is why I'm for legalized abortion).

The only other point that I have a comment on is the counseling. Yes, I agree, it's needed, but there's a danger there. If the person doing the counseling has an agenda(likely if they're not an ethical person), then they're going to use their position of influence in a bad way(whichever way it goes is bad). People who are in an emotional state are the most malleable, and this will definately put them there.

    PS

That must be awesome, as well as a headache, to have twins :P

  15. ou get your food from other people around you.

Babies get their food from other people around them (literally around )

    Your heart pumps blood.

    Babies hearts pump blood.

Quacker, that's a really bad comparison. I understand what you're trying to do, but...

In the end it's just a matter of perspective. Some are worried about the time that the child can live on it's own, others are worried about the potential, and so on and so forth.

We get all of these different perspectives arguing on Abortion, and they can't even agree on what the defining point *is*, much less come to an agreement about the issue itself.

    So anyway....

*hires a 350lb hooker named 'Big Betty' to give Quacker a spankin'!*

You bad boy, don't you know that the spoon does not bend?

  16. Back on the idea of grammar and correct use of language... Isn't language used to convey a message, feeling or such? Does it really matter how that is done, with correct grammar or not?

Yes. innocent, as opposed to not guilty. Which one seems more sterile(non-prejudgmental) to you?

  17. Not sure I foll you. Do you mean should he have a say in it?

    Yes.

The question is, *is* it completely up to the woman? It's her body, but men have a social responsibility to take care of the child, which, I think you'll agree, lasts a bit longer, and, in the end, is just as hard on your body.

Emotionally it's a very hard thing to do for a women, so she won't just do it like that. If you want to talk statistics, well after the law passed here there weren't more women who aborted their child then before the law.

I think that if it became socially acceptable, you *would* see a jump in the amount of abortions, but that begs the question: Is that a bad thing?

There are a lot of woman who *would* use it as a form of BC. The ones who wouldn't are generally the ones you *want* to have children(for the most part). I think that a lot of them are, currently, afraid of the social consequences.

The 'promoting sexual unresponsibility' is indeed a problem, but you had better left promoting away.

What exactly *is* sexual irresponsibility? What responsibility is there when it comes to sex? And who's responsibility is it? I've always found that phrase to be misleading.

  18. I think most people would keep them on hoping the doctor's were wrong. They'd then start to emotionatlly detach from the person enough that they *could* do it, but I think it'd be something that scared them for the rest of their lives(made them wary to jump into new relationships).
