This game sounds like fun. I actually had been looking for something like this.

From my perspective it is a game you never played before, and a it is very unique, very colourful, and you can use your imagination when creating a dynasty. Imagine when you played a RPG on pen and paper {MYFAROG,Dungeons and Dragons},and you can do anything you wanted with your imagination, but you wished you can do anything on a MMO/RTS/RPG on your computer, well this is the game :D You can makeup your beginning and your own ending. They give you most abilities that makes a person from the past rennassaince era,and you can use them, and I mean use them as they were meant to be used. For example you can kidnap a family member of a rich dynasty and lock him/her up in your own prison, and demand ransom {that is if the family cares enough about that member lol} It's like your dynasty against others whether you want to overthrow them or be their allies. How you want to play is your choice.

Wow, that takes me back =) I played it a bit, I think, it might have been The Guild 2 the base game though, or perhaps both. Was a long time ago, maybe I should try it again. I bought it/them via the Gamestop app though and haven't been able to access them for years, so I'd probably have to buy it again  I remember spending some effort trying to become part of the city council, but if I remember correctly it was pretty difficult. At least to stay in power :)

I cannot get on the council due to me and my family are rogues :D Right now me and everyone in my family went to the dark side, and our dynasty consists of nothing but criminals lol You have so many abilities/choices for commiting crime, and those are breaking into houses, hiring assassins to eliminate enemies, pick pocketing, and the list goes on. Right now my familie's goal is to get rid of all the dynasties so we can rule the map lol You can even rob carts transpourting goods, and if you waylay a rich dynasties cart you get what is in that cart, and that is usually an item of massive value. You can sell everything you steal on the market or put it in your store for people that shop your business.

Endless imagination, and so far I haven't found any limits on how I can play. There is no rush either when you build your empire because you can always make more children, and keep your dynasty going. If your main gets old,and can't have anymore children you can adopt from the church. If you can't perform in fighting/crime anymore you can change your spec to a merchant, and run a pub or a business, and still make money.

It is a very relaxing game as long as you keep expanding your dynasty. Just don't get the other dynasties mad before you have a powerful army, and empire, than go in and storm, and conquer lol

If you do feel the game is too buggy there are two mods that you can DL called Fajeths's supermodpack and Legacys modpack but I never bothered to use either because so far I am not having any trouble with bugs as I explained in the first post.

Yes give it a try again, and you will enjoy it ! :DI am happy they repatched it in 2015 because before that date it was a buggy mess. Now it is playable and enjoyable ! Life is great !

  4. Anyone ever play the game Guild 2 Rennassaince ? I just picked it up on steam, and even though it is an older game it is very fun. It's a game where you don't play god but play a character that is part of the village, and lives like the other NPCS unless you move up to a higher society. You can choose any profession from a craftsman to a rogue {rogue is the most fun}. It did have some bugs and glitches but so far I haven't experienced any and a lot of them were fixed with a patch in 2015. I recommend this game to anyone that loves sandbox games.

They did release the guild 3 in 2017 but sadly it is full of bugs and not very playable at the moment lol but I was told they are working on it constantly, and trying to make it a great game. It looks like it can be another gem just like the guild2. Keep those fingers crossed :D

@Rolf Dew I don't like extreme micro, I'm really bad at it. But I like to engage the enemy early and continuously on in MP matches. Playing relaxed is not suitable for MP IMO, it allows the enemy to gain control of the entire map.

Play smart, and choose what buildings, and skills you need first to make your army strong, and than you can control the map first. Yes you can play relaxed if you have the control, and are prepared for an attack or if you want to attack first. Don't let them tame you,you are the wolf that can't be tamed :P

I usually start with one cavalry scouting to my enemies baseline, and marking that path with guard towers {the one's with the dove} so I can keep any eye on them. I can see every move they make once they leave their base. While I am marking that path I will gather any treasure I come across so while my workers are gathering, chopping, andmining I will have more than enough resources to start building what I need to start a great economy, and train an army.

I also make sure my farms and food producing is hidden away from where my enemy will attack first, and if I need to garrison my workers I will. I will make sure I produce a lot of food so I can use it as my currency to purchase what I need at the market to advance my culture fast. I will also set up a trader so I can get even more resources.

As far as skills go when choosing to start I will decided if my army is going to be more range or more melee, and if I decide to have a lot of range I will start with the weapon skills over the armour. Once you get the market going you will have most the skills fast.

If I am in a area where there is a big river with a lot of fish I will build a dock asap, and use it for my drop off sight while getting massive food. So many ways where you can relax and build a big empire while your enemy is trying to rush you.

My favourite one is the fifth. They will release them again with w10 compatibility so you might want to wait a bit ;)

Nope never. 0 A.D. AI cheats too :P

I did notice OAD does cheat lol but the difference between OAD cheating and Northgard cheating is Northgard doesn't have the best terrain or ways to come up with an interesting tactic to  defend against your enemy because Northgard's map is a bit flat so you can't hide up in a mountain or hill.

I like to experiment with different tactics in how I will counter my enemies when they first attack me. One day I will build the biggest wall with the most defense towers and see if I can survive the first attacks, and if that doesn't work I come up with another tactic. I love to play on maps that have rivers because I will build my next civic center across the river from my enemy, and than I can see who is coming up that river so I am ready to defend.

So many strategies you can make up on OAD for offense or defense. On Northgard there is only one way to play lol You sure cannot hide, and you can't even go near the oceans unless you are a trader on a ship.

So settlers 5 is the goody ? Yes I will wait till they fix the 10 because I have a new computer heh I learned the hard way with AOE 3 but eventually got it to work. I hate when games don't work with 10.

Been playing with the Tia Chi forms for about forty years and yes that slow motion thing you see the old guys doing in the park is a martial art:angel:whose basic principle is to defect any attack on a tangent it includes throws and holds as well very efficient art no need to do the muscle buildup of the so called hard styles.

    Enjoy the Choice :)

Yes Tia Chi can be evil if used in self defense heh It is very underrated as in people judging what is strong or not, so yes I agree with you on people just thinking old people just practice it which is wrong. I never got into Chinese style because I was always into ninjas and Feudal Japan so I wanted to study that country, and their art lol

My husband got me into HEMA {Yes I am into weapons also} which lead to GLIMA because to reenact I needed to learn how to fight when I lost my weapons, and even though it is just roleplaying it added to making my fighting more interesting

lol I always kept myself active and busy. Kept me away from the mall :P

I want to do the same for Kung-Fu. Now that my life is settling a bit I'd like to start again. I just love the art and the mindset not much the violence.

On a side note I really loved the Settlers 7 ways of winning. There was military of course, but also trade, and upgrading your city. Each of them brought you stars and when you'd reach 5 you'd win.

I believe you can mix victory conditions now in 0 A.D.

You should go back because it feels so great to get to a high degree where you know you can take care of yourself. I never studied Kung Fu but it looks very interesting especially with the editation added. Yes Kung Fu is very violent heh But so is Akido lol It is hard to study when you have a full time job heh But do go back, and you will fel great.

I been studying Akido and jujitsu since I was little, but now I am into GLIMA which is a viking form of martial arts, and I have one amazing teacher that not only teaches me how to defend myself but also how to survive.  You are actually a viking that gets to experience mother earth, and learn so much about nature. I really enjoy it,and it also helped me with my farming skills lol GLIMA is no weapon combat which the Vikings used when their weapon/shield was grabbed out of their hands whether by a long axe or just just lost it in battle. Unfourtunately  GLIMA is mostly taught in Scandinavian countries but maybe one day world wide. So go back, and pursue Kung Fu :P

I never played settlers but I always wanted to,and last sale I was going to buy 7 but got into Anno lol which is fun but the combat is a bit weak, more naval battles over land which I fancy land more. So Settlers 7 is a goody ? I might buy it now lol Yes OAD is getting better everyday, and I love games with mixed victoury.

Did you ever play Northgard ?Northgard is a great game with mixed victoury conditions but what I don't like about it is the AI cheats, and the combat lacks bad.

Another thing that makes 0ad and other RTS games imo don’t do good is the unit deletions and insta deletion of structures. Some RTS games like RoN did it well using razing (more realistic) is good for MP but not on SP. Deletion of unit is fine just to avoid loot which is much heavier on RoN (units are very precious that one or 2 units advantage makes a difference) especially for Civs that has less economic bonus (Astecz), they need to fight, part of strategy mechanics.

The devs and most influential top players are thinking that the game should be enjoyed (in MP) with lesser time should not hold the game improvement with additional mechanics. Most fun (MP) games last at least 45 minutes to less than an hour. It could last an hour or more if players are not DH and submit themselves to defeat if things are really not favorable, but a lot of us are decent enough to know when to gg. Tbh 0ad MP games are fun despite some slight inconvenience like lag or path finding but with fun loving gamers. Bravado doesn’t do good tbh. Perhaps they should just keep helping more new comers to improve skills or enjoy the game by giving advice or play along, play with newbies in non competitive matches. I could go as high as 1400 + rating but decided not to. I will be limited to playing only with decent players but not with newbies to rookies which are in most cases are fun if you play along while taking a break from SP games. I hope to get a new account same nick with no rating and no games played not to smurf but just to play with new comers.

I can't stand MMOS/RTS with leaderboards, and arrogance, and this is why players are always rushing, and not enjoying the game. Isn't a game supposed to be fun over egos, stress and players getting angry over winning or losing ? Even on OW pvp games you have your griefers, your ego maniacs that want to be on top,and your whiners that feel they should quit after a week of being treated bad,and not being able to quest or kill dragons. I quit those kind of games after 3 years of rolling my eyes over how absurd people act.

I played gw2 since I was a teen, and it started out fun than they got into the "espourts" which made people stressed, and people couldn't handle someone was better which resulted in bitter shouting matches. Lesser players wouldn't attend matches because the players that played the most would win,and gloat. I did get on the leaderboard for being a solo engineer, learning my class {I will be honest a lot of classes did have advantage on gw2 lol},and got so much hate from players that used BOTS to be on top {yes they used 5 BOTS to win, sadly} Seriously ?

Yes players that play more have no patience with new players, they right away gloat or make fun of skills which what do you expect from a player that started a week ago ? There is no magic wand that you just wave, and instantly you are good. So why not have patience, and help new players get good than just gloat ?

I am a black belt in MMA,and I never entered one tournament, and I been asked why by a lot of people. I learned martial arts to protect myself, and self defense when I need it,and did it for me not to show off,and win a trophy. I always been humble :P I love fun,and not to prove something.

Yes I agree about players not enjoying all the mechanics, and just rushing to win. Why even include all the beautiful features and buildings when you don't even get a chance to build them in a match ? I tried the multiplayer mode for a week, and I did not enjoy it because of most players were just building a good sized cavalry, and rushing your settlement to win fast. I didn't even see them build one wall while my wall with a gate was a work of art. I know this is not Anno or a building RTS but it is not fun when one player just rushes to win when he just has 5 fields of food,10 woodcutters, and a little bit of steel/stone. So I decided to start rushing by getting my market started, and buying all my resources to build the biggest army but it wasn't fun because it was a race.

I decided to just play with my husband, and RL friends from Norway/Sweden only, and it is more fun playing with people who you trust, and are not serious about winning. It's so much more fun having your army massive, your economy blooming, and your civiliation looking like an empire than just a farm getting burned the minute it is built. This is the only thing I don't like about O.A.D. but otherwise it is a grand game, and has so much potential in being my dream game :P

I am always bringing up slaves lol Yes having slaves will prevent us from being ambushed because our real fighters will always be on guard and ready for battle. What also really bothers me is garrisoning fighters in a tower or ship, and than  having to rush to train more fighters. They can be very expensive, and yes you can pull them out when attacked, but still the towers are very game breaking because those murder holes help a lot,and cause alot of damage to the enemy.Having a good army of patrolling troops would really help against a rush. Nothing more annoying than building a beautiful economy, and being rushed.

Okay guys I agree this thread has gone off topic.

    Nice chatting with you Astrid.

I played Age of Mythology for a few days, and the verdict is I do think it is a great game, and very fun, but it isn't as good as O.A.D. :P I do like O.A.D. way better.

Yes we did go a lot off topic lol I think we should stick to O.A.D. which is such a grand game that it deserves the attention of topics. Yes we leave it at OAD,and a bit other games, but not haircare,Counties/nations or South African farms lol

@Astrid Good to hear that AOM is well liked :) .  Exactly, people act like you are crazy if you suggest that giants could of lived in the past and today, also I believe dragons were dinosaurs, I also don't believe in evolution, so some people act like you are stupid are you believe something different. Age of Empires 3, one of my favorite games as a teenager, indeed, I love colonial history, it reminds me of South Africa's  history. I will definitely try expeditions conquistadors and expeditions Vikings, it sounds interesting.

Sad to hear that, the Irish guy's mum was so closed minded, although it is great that you married the guy of your dreams instead lol.

True the pony mod is adorable, indeed baby animals are so cute, one of my cat's is a minature cat and is still the size of a kitten, even though she is 7 years old, she is so cute!

Have you tried the "Hyrule Conquest" mod for 0 ad? I wasn't even a Zelda fan before but that mod is amazing!

Yes AOM reminds me so much of O.A.D.,and I think when O.A.D. is at least in Beta people are going to switch. AOM has the coolest god abilities, and I love how you can use your pegasus to scout around the map. I love the different creatures from ravens to minotaurs to centaurs. It's like OAD soldiers are thinking of their gods while they fight. My RL friends that are into lesser fantasy now agree that our kinsmen did think about our gods when they went into battle so boars in all gold {The gauls/romans used boars as a sacred animal for war},and chimeras can be possible on this game. At first they were scepticle and gloated about other "lesser fantasy" games. Just think about religion, and anything can be possible.

I think Wildstar should implement a full time scout on O.A.D. that has regular scout abilities than just a man on horseback. This way our cavalry man can do his job whether he is going to battle or hunting. It can be a bit expensive to train troops, and when one is way across the map you might need him for combat. The scout can also have their own appearance so you recognize them as scouts as the priest/shaman and trader looks different. The scout can have a special ability that makes him run faster so he can get around the map without getting killed by wild animals or enemies. I always wonder how my people on the home base are getting along while my  cavalry of 6 are out exploring the world. One scout would be less overwhelming thinking about those 6 units that can be home protecting the base.

Yes AOE 3 is so interesting, and the native animals added make it so much different, and the graphics are pretty, and colourful. AOE3 reminds me of "Cossaks3" because of the muskets, and the look of that century. You can even just have one unit with a musket protecting your base from outlaws so a lot of freedom on AOE3. I love freedom on games, and being about to choose what you want to do next, and OAD is that :D

Yes his mum was a pain in the @#$%, and she even hated my hair, and how I dressed but ,what else would I expect from a  posh, over fashioned, and religious woman that tried to shut you up over a cup of tea "Do you have coffee" ? She looked at me as a wild girl, and I listened to satanic music {pagan is not satanic lol} that I was a bad influence over her son which he was no angel. He was all tattooed, fought in MMA,and hungout at the pubs. She thought my Mjolnir around my neck was the devil's sign, and she told him I was a witch lol /rolls eyes I really didn'rt care what she thought about me because I have a sense of humour, and me and him were laughing over the whole thing. Me a witch ? That is the most funniest  lol The bright side is I have two inlaws that think I am the best girl for her son heh They adore me,and think I am a princess so I am happy now. The past is the past.

Yes when I first seen the ponie mod, I was so awweeeeeee,so cute, and such a job well done, and even the fantasy castles look so cute. So adourable ! I love the different colours the ponies and unicorns are,and the villages look like something out of Harry Potter or LOTR. I even have a collection of "my pretty ponies".

Kittens are so cute with their bigger heads, small tails, and little bodies awweeeeee I always loved baby lambs also, those are very cute ! I have stuffed animals of baby lambs, wolves, kittens, and bears. I love stuffies lol

I never tried Hyrule but I planned on downloading as it does look great, and fun. Once again very pretty colours, and interesting characters, more the cute style heh I do enjoy realistic and histourical better though such as the original OAD. I will try that out,as I recently tried out the Eastern Asian mod which is very interesting.

Have you ever played Gloria Victis ? It is a bit different than O.A.D. as it is more a OW sandbox pvp game. It's very fun,has great graphics, and a lot of things to do but the bad thing is a lot of desyn, glitches and bugs which makes combat very clunky and slow. Fortunately the devs upgrade it,and eventually it should be released and playable which it is, but still has a few issues.I played It with my hubby for 3 years but not as often as I would like to due to working hours on our farm but when we do play we have a lot of fun,and the combat is so unique and interesting. The game reminds me of Mount and Blade a lot,and the combat is very fun but needs a bit of fixing. What I don't like about GV is the lower population, and the same people to fight that are a bit arrogant. They gloat, they talk bad,and they think they are the best. They do ruin the spirit and fun of the game when they open their mouths but if you ignore them, and fight them, and loot them you will be fine lol Always a game with one guild that are annoying.

@Astrid true, one should think of other people and help where we can. Yeah everybody has something they are great in or love, I had a feeling you would like AOM, it is an amazing game. Haha yeah the Northern Ireland accent is great, very manly\rough. True, some aspects of AOM, like giants, dragons and some other things are not fantasy things, but stuff that have existed at some point in the past. A fair amount of mythology is based on real events, for example the sacking of Troy was proven to have been a real historical event, who knows what else really happened but are considered as just myths today.

Yes I am a bit addicted now to AOM lol I neglected my CK2 to play it,and I feel bad I am letting my favourite game sit but it is exciting to try new games, and experience something different as in playstyle and mechanics.

I do adore CK2, but what I don't like about Crusaders Kings is you don't get to interact in battles you just read the battles as if it was a story. I get  that CK2 is a story from a histourical perspective, but I prefer controlling your army in battles like in OAD,Men of War,and AOM. CK2 is a bit micro management but it is exciting to plot and to plan tactics and battles. I do not like how you have to buy DLCs to look like the faction you are playing or fighting against.

I do agree that mythological creatures did exist in the past, and people around here think I am mad when I speak of such creatures or animals that by society cannot have existed because they only belong in fables. Why is it our kinsmen told stories about these creatures ? I am sure they ran into them sometime in their lives,or seen them in the forest or up in the hills. Perhaps these mythical creatures did exist but became extinct ? There are giants that do live in Iceland, and there are giants in the Netherlands, and we are talking about families that are very tall heh There is a myth that trolls live in the forests here in Norway, and we even sell statues and items to tourists that are excited about this myth.

Yes I seen the trojan horse on AOM,and there are a lot of gods from norse to egytian to Greece etc. The graphics remind me of AOE 3,and I love that game because it is about the new world. I always loved learning and reading about the American frontier, and the wars that went on wth the natives vs the settlers. Such an exciting subject ! I also always loved reading about the consquistadours and the discovery of the new world. You should play "expeditions conquistadours",as it is a good when you get the game down. They also have "expeditions Vikings" but it was a bit disappointing because I can't stand how you can't explore the world, and if you do the time runs out and the game ends. Such a ruiner for a game that had potential, especially as a game with the  norse. I won't even go into the bugs and gltiches they still haven't fixed yet.

Yes the NI accent is very manly lol I agree. I knew this exchange student from N.I. that was very handsome, and had that accent. I dated him one day until his mum ended the relationship because I am a heathen to her protestant religion, and didn't want me influencing him,and driving him away from christianity lol He liked me a lot,and was crazy about me,as I was crazy about him but religion got in the way. If it wasn't for his mum I probably would of married him,and not ever met my husband. Good job mum

I don't see why would that make the game unbalanced. Those civilizations that don't have catapults have rams. Each civilization has an effective mean to level an enemy base. Some have more advanced siege capabilities than others, just like in history, but this is called differentiation not unbalance.

The barbarian germans beat the romans with armour not even near  as good as the romans wore. You don't need weapons or armour to match another faction. I agree with you.

i really think that ram should not hit human.... how on earth u can hit human (maybe only capable if that human is stuck cannot move.hitting elephant is find since it so big...

btw i always wonder which catapult is the real? the AoE catapult got wheels the move and shoot without unpacking, and it throw a curve line....the catapult in 0 ad is pushing the stone...
I actually like to use ram (mostly playing race with elephant ...it somewhat like ram but could die to arrow)it totally OP if you mix elephant and ram together
catapult and blot shooter only do little damage to building you need to take an army to protect it. I really like feeling holding a ground outside enemy town and slowly break the wall
catapult also have no fire damage is that added? or just planning feature)

Ram is actually more toward surprise attack capable since they move fast(too fast.......) and no need to unpack...no sword cavalry really gg

furthermore I want to ask can we give bolt shooter arrow more visual? I know about being realism(i love that too) but to measure how well those arrow and bolt work ,we need to make them a bit more bigger(a mode option maybe?)   being able to mount them on wall would be prefect too

Can a tank hit a human ? :P If the human is standing in front of the ram they will get hit so yes a ram should hit a human because the ram is powerful,it strong, and it's big so a soft target standing in front of it will be crushed. Very accurate.

Just build your army to destroy the catapaults, and what I mean is make a lot of swordsmen, and they will destroy the siege weapons. Use the terrain to your advantage like the woods, mountains, rivers. While your swordsmen are destroying the catapault have your archers/slingers destroying the units controlling the siege weapons. Always moved around your units, and don't just stand in one area. Perhaps when the siege weapon is coming your way plan a tactic, and destroy it. You don't need catapaults on your faction to succeed. Just battle rams will work with an amazing army.
