  1. Their devs (or whoever is really running the business model) need to stop. It's one thing that they've released a dead game, but it's another to make their cash-grabbing mentality more and more blatant.

I mean Lootcrates... really. Even a privileged "Founder" can't benefit from it. He says so in the comments.

  2. You guys gotta hand it to 'em, though, the Steamcharts showed a blip of life in the game.

But I kinda enjoyed the hate it has been getting. It's hilarious! Take this one reaction for the change to Free-to-Play for example:

What does it mean for all those who had bought the game? You are not going to lose anything, and you're getting more than the value of your money back. You will be considered a Founder and you'll get immediate access to all the original civilizations plus access to exclusive content in the future.

Really that is your justification to those that paid money for the game, I'm sure they didn't know they were buying a "season pass" as a "Founder" for a FTP. As it is I'm not even buying the game for free.

  3. Hedgewars
    OpenArena
    Super TuxKart
Secret Chronicles of Dr. M (from the ashes of Secret Maryo Chronicles)
    Warzone2100
Pokemon Emerald (Because Tuxemon might not be finished in my lifetime)
The Zelda games from Solarus (Still waiting for the upcoming one).
    FLARE's campaign
    Minetest
    Super Mario War

I thought I was already too old for games. Now that I listed them down, I realized just how wide the gaming genres I have under my belt. And, yes, I DO STILL play these games... except for FLARE since I already finished it. I'm just watching the updates.

  4. “If you have egames where it’s about killing somebody, this cannot be brought into line with our Olympic values.” (Thomas Bach)

    1. Games like Age of Empires is about taking over empires through slavery and brute military force, so they can't be in line with Olympic values.
    2. People dying and getting beat up through physical sports do not count (I don't know about dying, but basketball, football, soccer, and ice hockey are known to have brawls). They are still in line with Olympic values.
    3. Since pointing and clicking with your mouse buttons so that you can reduce the HP of that certain 3D Graphics model counts as "somebody actually killed (as in real-world killed)", is the reason why fencing, boxing, wrestling, and those martial arts sports are not as dangerous.

I know that people are more adept at taking Bach's statement down, but can't he see such simple flaws in his reasoning?

  5. For a long time I considered suggesting this mechanic because of the "Infinite Food from Fields" would be made better use of. Well, that and the aforementioned realism and history.

However, the Gamer Instinct says "It's just another unnecessary headache." and didn't entertain it any further.

  6. Gonna relieve some of my stress by stating what the recent patch includes:

    • Improved server connection by lessening the amount of playerbase (maximum of 2 per session)
    • Better management of financial resources (on the players' side) by the steady decline of Empires Apart's gains
    • Improved method of alienating the Youtubers who promoted the game
Resonance22 found out that the devs care little about his work
ZeroEmpires has yet to make his review (probably he can't make it positive enough)
    • Making the spinning unit a forever-feature because they love players whine about it

  7. My, my. The discussion has devolved into a general gameplay discussion.

    Balance
I noticed that in every Alpha, different balancing complaints are being addressed:
    1. Roman Swordsman rush destroys Civic Centers immediately! That's no fun
    2. Skiritai Commando and Slinger Rushes destroy buildings quickly! That's no fun
    3. Cav Rushes are too OP! That's no fun
    4. Ranged Cavs are unstoppable! That's no fun
    5. There's something wrong with Siege Weapons!
Is there an end to this?

    Counter System
Yeah, it needs to be brought back since the planned combat system has yet to take successful fruit.

    Citizen Soldiers
I'll advocate that Citizen Soldiers should only be available in the Civic Center. Because, you know, they are Citizen Soldiers (villagers that can fight; NOT soldiers that can gather). They are technically defined as Resource Gatherers, but they're visually defined as Fighters. -- This is where the developer/designer-to-player miscommunication happens.

Different "Barracks" for Different Types of Units
It's getting there. We'll just have to wait. Even the Siege Workshop is being done.

    Gameplay Vision
Seriously, the classic playerbase vs. modern playstyle is rearing its ugly head again. And the devs (who still need a tremendous amount of help) are being forced on the fence trying to decide how the game should be played.

  8. I didn't know that Battlefield 4 is an RTS. But putting that aside, I noticed that the city building games have their controls all bunched together into one single control panel, while the action-packed games have them scattered all throughout.

  9. ^ - True dat. Now I'm tempted to suggest that an answer to the FAQ "Why not 0 A.D. on Steam?" is "Empires Apart. Nuff said."

Though it's not really "early" by their standards. I remember that they actually delayed the release for about half a year.

I'm actually surprised by the review's criticism:
    - Bad pathfinding
    - Missing animations
    - No Campaign
    - Horrible AI

These problems are also present in 0 A.D. but is in a much much better form... in Open Source Alpha. Not to mention you guys are in a better situation feature-wise as well.

I hope that Slitherine won't make excuses for supporting Empires Apart. Staying quiet, moving on to other projects, and forget it ever happened is the best they can do.

  10. When honest reviews come up, I can't help but compare how 0 A.D. tries to handle the issues. I mean it's basically saying "Empires Apart is a bad AoE clone because it's far too close." While in here, "0 A.D. is a bad AoE clone because it's going too far astray... to the point of you don't know how it should be played."

And in about 1 minute into the video, he criticizes the counter system, while we're debating whether it should be put back or not. But to be fair, he said simple counter system. I mean, I haven't really played Empires Apart but is the counter system really so simple that it deserves criticism?
