  1. I'm not sure with the Siryan archer, the first version is Roman Syrian archer in second century AD.

The second a reference by a mod. If the mod have good source for this, mist possible but we need se how look the archer under Seleucid.

So, a better reference? Unfortunately, most of the reference pictures that aren't Rome I mods are of Roman auxiliaries.

EDIT: it seems to me that if we just give it a combination of middle eastern/ hellenistic armour that we already have, it'll be fine.

  2. No I did not see him.

Okay, Seleucid soldier units, I think can go this way (underline mean soldier need new texture or models or both):

    Civic Center

    • Militia Thureos Spearman: Thureophóros Politès
    • Militia Skirmish Cavalry: Hippakontistès Politès

Military Colony (has "Syrian Tetrapolis" upgrade)

    • Syrian Archer: Toxótēs Syrías
    • Macedonian Settler Cavalry: Hippeus Makedonikos

    Barracks

    • "Bronze Shield" Pike Infantry: Phalangitès Khalkaspides (has "Gold Shield" upgrade)
    • Thureos Skirmisher: Thureophóros Akontistès
    • Companion Heavy Cavalry: Hippos Hetairike (has "Agema" upgrade)
    • Median Light Cavalry: Hippeus Medikos

    Mercenary Camp

    • Thracian Swordsman: Rhomphaiaphoros Thrakikós
    • Arab Tribal Skirmisher: Pezakontistès Arabikós
    • Cretan Archer: Toxótēs Krētikós
    • Galatian Sword Cavalry
    • Tarentine Medium Cavalry
    • Dahae Horse Archer

    Fortress

    • Traditional Army
      • "Silver Shield" Pike Infantry: Phalangitès Argyraspides
      • Scythed Chariot: Drepanèphoros
    • Reform Army
      • Romanized Heavy Swordsman: Thorakitès Rhomaïkós
      • Seleucid Cataphract: Seleukidón Kataphraktos
    • Armored War Elephant: Thorakisménos Eléphantos
    • Siege Catapult: Lithóbolos
    • Siege Tower: Helépolis

Absolutely gorgeous! Is there anything I can do to help put this in action? Great work, I'm so impressed!

  3. Slightly off topic: Is is just me, or do the Seleucids share an obsurd amount of units with Persia (yeah I know, only 2, maybe 3, but that is a lot) What about replacing the Seleucid peltast with the semi-famous Seleucid heavy peltast. They were famous for being part of the Seleucid empire's reforms. They looked basically like Thureosophoros, but they were very heavy skirmishers. Slower, but harder to kill.

Edit: p.s. The newest model looks great, but I do agree, the UVs on the new models need work.

  4. Well, for the animation/modeling, all that would be needed is to elongate the spear (possibly use a pike prop), make a resting animation for the human of the spear resting on the shoulder, and for attacking, it might be possible to cobble the torso animation from a pikeman attack, with the leg position of the horse riding. As for the armour, I'm sorry, I don't know. I'll get back to you on that, if there is any.

Carthaginian champion cav has the beginning of the horse armour. The chamfron would also be useful (the plumed cav helmet)

  5. Unfortunately I'm not good enough to make human animations. You can see examples of my failures on this forum. About armor, do you see any currently in the game I could use ? :)

  6. With proper historical backup I guess yes :)

What would count as "proper" it is said (on Wikipedia and other sources) that the Seleucids used hellenistic merc cav. The Tarantine cavalry from Tarentum were famous cav mercs and where used by all greek and hellenistic factions sans the Ptolemaics. I think it would just diversify and hellinize the Seleucids more, instead of using an exact copy of a persian unit. While the Seleucids did use Median cav, Tarantine cav would make it more diverse.

  7. Well, the intention here as far as I understand it is to provide something which can go in the actual game and not necessarily a mod, so in that case it belongs here ;) Or possibly in the development forum. Either way that's not a big deal as the topic can be moved, my main point is just that this thread can be used so there aren't two threads about the same thing :)

Yeah, I am trying to suggest changes that would actually be in the game. We've reached a common consensus that the cataphract model needs to be updated, and I have come up with a garb that matches history and the faction's page, I just need someone to either make it, or help me make it. We habe also decided that the chariot needs to ne updated as well, and I have proposed a more Greek replacement for the Median cav. I meant this topic to actually help the developers finish the Seleucids.
