  1. RTW and Age of Empires-like games are quite different. I don't think that "moral" and similar concepts can be merged into a classic historical RTS game, which is what 0 AD pretends to be (I think!).
  2. Yes, the fact is that nobody can be 100% sure. I think it was a wise decision to mix Lusianians and Iberians for 0 AD (I guess it's impossible to gather enough info about Lusitanians to make them a new civ, and if it was possible, it would be very similar to a Celt-iberian civ). I just wanted people to know that the "Iberians" of 0 AD are not only the Iberian-native tribes of Spain, but all the Iberians as the inhabitants of the Iberian Peninsula. That includes the Lusitanians, the Conii, the Ulteriors, the Turdetans, etc etc. - which were not "the Iberians" as is, but were Iberians because they lived in the Iberian Peninsula This can be a little confusing, and it's the English language fault . Because in Portuguese (for example), we distinguish "Iberos" (Iberian-native tribes) and "Ibéricos" (inhabitants of the Iberian Peninsula). In English it's all "Iberians". So, to make this clear: 0 AD's Iberians are "Ibéricos", and not just "Iberos". Right? About the works, I have some portuguese history books containing some chapters about the Campaigns of Viriato and the Roman Conquest of Iberia. If you'd like, I'll have most pleasure to translate some texts and provide you with scannings.
  3. I've opened this topic: http://www.wildfiregames.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10539
  4. I've decided to create this topic so that we can discuss this issue appropriately. No more scattered off-topics. Very interesting indeed. But I don’t find anything in your little article that goes against what I’ve said, that is, and apologising for repeating myself, Lusitanians and Iberians were different people, even in their ethnic origin. Iberians were Northern African people who settled in the SE of the Iberian Peninsula. Lusitanians were a mix of celtic and swiss tribes who settled in the region that is now Portugal and Galicia. Eventually, the Celts and the Iberians formed the Celtiberians, mainly in the center of the Peninsula. Therefore, that doesn't mean that Lusitanians - who lived in the "Far West" - had close contact with the Iberians. The Lusitanians were the last tribe standing after the Roman invasion of the Peninsula. Viriato even had to fight some Celtiberian tribes which were Roman allies, which proves that the Lusitanians always maintained a relative independence from their Celtiberian neighbours. Nota bene: When I use the term "Iberians" I am referring to the Iberian tribes, and not to the inhabitants of the Iberian Peninsula. I am well aware of the political connotations of the theme (I grew up in Spain, in Galicia, so I am very familiar with Spanish and Portuguese idiosyncracies . As I understood, we were not comparing Lusitanian tribes to Celtiberian ones, but to the truly "Iberian" ones of the Mediterranean area, where the greatest differences can be found. At least, that's what I meant
  5. lol NaurwenT, I know nothing about ancient languages of the Iberian Peninsula... I've just wrote what I've read. But one thing is true, Iberians (tribes) are different from Lusitanians. LOL nice elephant omicron
  6. OK then, I've remade Greta. Are these better? ...and I've made this lousy greek too: About the Lusitanians/Iberians, it is important to know that Lusitanian and Iberian cultures were completely different, and so was their language. Lusitanians (as a Celtic people) spoke a Celtic language, Iberians spoke one of their own, which badly resembles Basque. Unfortunately, those languages eventually become extinct because of Roman occupation, and there is very few information about them. As you may know, modern Portuguese and modern Spanish are latin languages, and there's not one single track of the ancient Lusitanian and Iberian languages. There are some studies about this on the internet. You can visit this page about Iberian languages. Extract from the "Short Introduction to the Iberian Language" page: I'm sorry I can't help you further.
  7. OK, I've done my best. Viriathus, the Lusitanian: BTW, I want to remember all of you that Lusitanians were not part of the Iberian tribes
  8. I guess Mythos is right. I know, for personal experience, that many people want to have their cake and eat it. They don't measure their impulse. One day they are thrilled to be part of a big project, the next day they go 'After all, it's not that interesting' and they never show up again. As for myself, I wish I knew something about programming and texturing, because I'd love to participate in something like this... and I've grown enough to know what I can handle and what are my limitations. Good work and good luck for the project!
  9. Where did you get those "Wargaming.net" pictures?
  10. I've seen in the FAQs that you will look for translators when the game is ready. Well, I'm just offering myself to make the Portuguese translation. I've already translated 3 games (GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas), and I'm currently translating Age of Empires 3. So you can say I have some experience with this
  11. Yeah, I thought you would like to know this, because I know you are putting a lot of effort on historical accuracy.
  12. Hi. Nice project there. I wish you the best of the lucks. As a Portuguese myself, I can help you with the Portuguese civilization, if you'd like.
  13. But will Gauls have any chariot?
  14. What I wanted to say is that all encyclopedias and History books I've looked in don't consider Lusitanians as a faction of the Iberians. They make a distinction between Iberians - north-african tribes who settled in Southern Spain - and Lusitanians - a mix of celts and swiss tribes who settled in the region that is now Portugal. Of course, you can always say that the Iberians are those who live in the Iberian Peninsula.
  15. Obrigado, NaurwenT Também és de Portugal?
  16. They had, but I think that will be historically ambiguous, because there is a distinction between Iberians - the tribes of Southern Spain - and Iberians - the inhabitants of all Iberian Peninsula. And I don't know which of them Wildfiregames are considering.
  17. But didn't the Gauls used chariots too?
  18. Hi there. I'm Nuno, from Portugal. I do and like a lot of things... I draw, I transcribe ancient score manuscripts, I play the piano, I translate computer games... and I also like History and to think. So, when my elder brother introduced me to Age of Empires 1 (before that, I only played SuperMario in my gameboy ), I was absolutely amazed. I didn't know that such strategy games existed (the only strategy game I knew was chess) and I got adicted. Therefore, I'm glad to see that an even more historically accurate, plus freeware, game is under development. I've been following 0 AD progress for a while now and I'm eager to play it. I've always dreamt to participate in the making of a RTS game, particularly in the civ design and unit/building concepts. Unfortunately, it's just a dream , since the only things I have are ideas, History knowledge and the ability to draw (on the paper). (Anyway, I've found Mythos_Ruler's "Age of Antiquity" Project on AoE3 Heaven Games forum, and I jumped at the opportunity. At least I can be a civ designer! ) So... Good luck there with your project. I'll be here giving morale.
