Reworked the legs from a standing position. It's hard to make legs that will deform nicely from walking to sun-bathing (which is what the crocs idle animation should be).
-
http://trac.wildfiregames.com/ticket/1976 Working on the croc. Still plenty left to do. Legs are a bit tricky.
-
I also had some similar ideas about the neck fluff. Do what you think works out best.
-
Looks great. I hope we can have some alpha for the whiskers, as eye-candy ? If not, we could drop them alltogether, or at least, modify them.

Fixed the texture. darn hard to find good photos for the wing from above. http://www.flickr.co...shi/6580254701/ http://www.flickr.co...shi/5488404797/ Edit: Aw crap. He had NC on those photos. Edit2: I sent him an email asking if he would consider dropping NC on those two photos.

http://trac.wildfiregames.com/ticket/1983 Felt like doing a quick one. Based on this image for shape and texture: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Alectoris-chukar-001.jpg partridge.zip

I compiled a list of all the animals in here (minus the ones which already have tickets) in a format which should make it easier to add new animals to trac. I don't know exactly which species it should be, so I can't add wikipedia links. I would suggest creating all of them, and close the ones which are finished already. If the species isn't decided upon it can be added later. I could add these now (though i wouldn't mind splitting the work, we could arrange it over IRC). Ok? http://trac.wildfiregames.com/ticket/1975 I wanted to do a bird, so this time it's just a decorative animal. Very low poly, 134 faces (if its just going to be flying, no more should be needed). I just put on some half-assed texture to try the alpha for the feathers (the texture is just projected from photo from underneath! it has claws on its back now Added a basic rig to it as well so i could pose it. hawk.zip

I think I got the features down, more or less. Will continue tweaking. I was planning for some whiskers and neck-fluff with alpha maps.

http://trac.wildfiregames.com/ticket/1974 I've seen people asking about a remade tiger model, so I started working on one. I haven't gotten very far yet, so this is just a heads up. I used a bengal tiger as a reference, but to be honest, I can barely tell the species apart so it might just as well be something else.
-
Well.. Good for me that I started with the tiger then! Hard to find any good clean profile pictures though.
-
Updated Sorry Enrique, completely new UV-map now. Good news is that I managed to get rid of a few more triangles and made better use of the texture space. oryx.zip
-
Looking good Enrique. We make a good team * I think the black stripe on the bellow should go all the way up the neck. http://commons.wikim...ash_NP_Oryx.jpg * Some of them also have a black stripe on their back and on the mane http://commons.wikim...yx_beisa%29.jpg * For the tail I figured an alpha map would be suitable. The many as well. * The toes are to dark http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Antelope_new.jpg

I just felt a need to point out that hippos also tend to be in water I'll do a crocodile next then, but could someone please specify which subspeices it should be? Nile crocodile?
-
I stayed at 838 triangles in the end. Next animal model is up for a vote i guess. I'm thinking Ostrich, or maybe crocodile (if so, exactly which subspecies should I model it after?) oryx.zip
-
Alright, then I'll stick with the current model. I have a bit of tweaking left, but I'll post and update when I'm finished rigging it up and UV-map it.

http://trac.wildfiregames.com/ticket/1967 Modeling an Oryx. It's a big to high poly this time, (currently 850 triangles). I was aiming for 700, like specified in the art document, but there is plenty of regions that could be simplified, but I figured I'd finish this model first before tweaking it for 0AD I've been rigging it up to see how it looks (but it's not quite finished). Here is a sample
-
Of course, noone is suggesting no forum posts. Keep the discussion here, sure. But the "todo"-list should be in the issue tracker. When some art object is finished in the forums, add it to svn, just close the issue in Trac. Having to use the forum, then I might have just started working on a Wildebeest, or rabbit, or goat, like was suggested to me. This would of course be a waste of time since they all seem to be in 0AD already. Maybe they are just missing animations, or perhaps the model isn't that great? I have no idea. This: http://www.wildfiregames.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=15686 is just a inefficient manual issue tracker, and also out-of-date. Since it's quite clearly not a good way to keep track of things, so I've simply been suggested 'eh, just check in atlas and cross-reference with all the forum posts manually'. And that won't tell me if a model needs to be modified, it doesn't say if the model is there, just missing textures, I... feel like i'm taking crazy pills for having to argue for using an issue tracker to keep track of issues in a large collaborative open project. In fact, no artists would need to change any of their habits, all that would change is the addition of a proper way of tracking what needs to be done. Some maintainer could still aloen just use the issue tracker to keep track of what needs to be done, instead of writing a list in a forum post.
-
Again, that list doesn't say which ones are missing, or just needs texture or just animation, or is just partly animated, or which type of animal it should be. I would much rather see some Trac tickets for each animal (where they are updated whenever there is a mesh, or some texture is submitted), and some meta-tickets for each region. Forums are good for discussion, but this is exactly what issue-trackers where designed for.
-
Why isn't there a Trac for art development to keep track of what needs to be done? Seems like the obvious choice to keep track on who is working on what. Tickets for each animal or building type. Meta tickets for regions, etc. An animal ticket could be closed when all its mesh, the texture and armature-rig + animation is all done. The tickets could specify which type of, e.g. tiger, it should be modeled after (possibly after one reaches an agreement on the forums). Right now I have to look through year old threads. You mention Wildebeests and Goats, but both of these seem to be in data pack I downloaded (both in a dae.cached.pmd format which I'm unable to open). Maybe they are just placeholders, or it's just the animation that's missing? I have no idea.
-
I started with a Beisa Oryx (East African Oryx) Edit: Looks like this so far, I'll try to finish it tomorrow.
-
Well, those are only animals that are in the game already. I saw the other list had Oryx, which looks awesome and doesn't seem to be in the game yet, so i'll just model that.
-
The other animal thread hadn't been updated in quite some time. I want to model something, which are the priority animals?
-
Great job on the texturing Enrique (and very fast!)! You are probably correct about the width. I would rather just model new animals (or assets), unless, of course, there is an overabundance with modelers already? Edit: B.t.w, is the 0AD art usually made available somewhere outside the private SVN? I figured I'd put this up on OpenGameArt as well.
