Yes, you're right - I always make that mistake. I even dug it out and looked at it, still got it wrong. -
Other RTS game you play

I never buy them, I get them as gifts - generally after they move to the discount rack. One I should mention is Lords of Magic Special Edition (original release was badly bugged, this was much better), even though it's not a true RTS. It was kind of a hybrid; a turn-based RPG on the map screen, with elements of city-building, but with real-time combat. The combat interface is surprisingly good. An old Win 95 game, but still easily found online. Next was Star Wars: Galactic Battlefields Saga (it's built on the Age of Kings engine). Includes Galactic Battlefields and the Clone Campaigns expansion. Not surprising that it's pretty good, LucasArts can afford to do things right. You can have the joy of sending hordes of Gungans to their deaths. Then I got Age of Empires Collectors Edition. This includes AoE, The Rise of Rome expansion, AoK, and The Conquerors expansion. Kept me busy quite a while. Finally, I got Command & Conquer Generals Deluxe Edition, which includes the Zero Hour expansion. You get to blow things up real good. -
[FYI] New Java vulnerability
greenknight32 replied to Pedro Falcão's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
I'm still groggy from the flu, forgot which forum I'm on (visited the FreeCol forum just before, FreeCol is written in Java). When fully awake, I'm well aware that 0 A.D. uses JavaScript, which is a completely different thing despite the similar names. Anyway, an exploit for one of the still-unpatched vulnerabilities in Java quickly appeared, and the government is still advising you disable it. -

Absolutely correct, not a problem for 0 A.D. Be advised, though, there are still unpatched vulnerabilities in the Java plug-in. Still not our problem.. -
Foundations under attack (discussion)
greenknight32 replied to Yves's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
That was addressed by quantumstate Maybe it should be possible for attacking units to dismantle partially completed buildings after killing the builders - just reverse the construction process. -
Until the lag problem gets fixed, I stay with only 1 AI player.
-
Very good point. When its formation was broken up, usually an army was defeated. To be realistic, a formation might break if it was outflanked or suffered too high a percentage of casualties.
-
Once the enemy starts building siege engines, palisades become about useless - by then you should be counter-attacking. Early in the game is when it helps to build palisades.
-
Good point - palisades are cheap and fast to build. Your towers can be killing the enemy while they're attacking the palisade, so they may never even reach the tower.
-
Right, anytime there are choke points you can defend it means you can defend much more efficiently. You can protect a lot more territory with fewer units, so you can have more gatherers and builders and build up much faster. The first attack often comes too soon for this, and you have to fight them on your doorstep - so it's critical to make enough fighters early.

Oops, Macedonians. My memory's going. apparently.

My chicken is sick, please help
greenknight32 replied to AllenY's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
If the crop is not a hard lump, that would be sour crop. Similar problem, in that the crop isn't emptying overnight, but in this case the feed has fermented in there. See http://poultry.allotment.org.uk/advice/chicken-health/sour-crop for treatment. -
I'd love to see a screenshot of that - massive defensive overkill! I think what you saw was, the Romans were running out of resources. That seems to be the key to winning there - you keep them from colonizing the west side of the river, they use up the resources on the east side and can't make any more troops. That last attack column they sent was probably all low-grade soldiers they produced after they ran out of metal needed to produce stronger units.

Seriously, guys, I do have experience with chickens, and I'm 99% sure it's crop bound (ie, it has a compacted mass of feed stuck in its crop). Check out the link I posted - the symptoms are exactly as AllenY described. Still may need to go to the vet, if adding oil and massaging it doesn't help. -

Sounds like it could be crop bound: http://poultry.allot...d-or-bound-crop -
Took me a few tries, but I beat it, playing against Aegisbot. I didn't retreat the army, just built as fast as I could. I defended the river crossing with manned towers and 2 manned ships, fortress, massed troops. I used a phalanx of Spartan Hoplites set to defensive blocking the beach, backed with heavy skirmishers, swordsmen, cavalry, several healers. Built a 2nd civ center to the north early on. Built a bunch of rams and charged, then sent another wave, then a third which totally broke their resistance, mopped them up. Ships might seem wasteful, but really weakened them - killed woodcutters who came near, started whittling down their attack forces before they even reached the crossing. Troops on the ships took no losses, and I could repair the ships between attack waves.

I'm really surprised to hear that you've been supporting those old cards. I used to have a computer that had one, but I upgraded the card because I couldn't play any of the newer games - and this was several years ago (got a different computer now). You can get better graphics cards than that cheap on ebay, and swapping them out isn't hard. I can't imagine 0 A.D. plays well enough on hardware that outdated to make it worth the effort to support it, though I can't test that. I'd drop it.

How You Made Your Usernames
greenknight32 replied to Black Op's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
I came up with greenknight as my chessroom handle years ago - I like to use my knights agressively and I'm an organic gardener. I add 32 where "greenknight" is already in use. My avatar is an illustration from the Middle Ages of the legendary Green Knight. -
Some onboard graphics can be pretty good - but it uses some of your system RAM for graphics, leaving less available for other tasks. Maybe you need to add more RAM.

Hero aura/selections

Could you add some kind of emblem to their uniform? Maybe give them colored arm bands, or crests on their helmets. Don't know if that would be practical, but it would be realistic and avoid the implied magic of a glow. -
I can't reproduce the error at all.
-
When I reloaded the save I made while I was getting that error, the error didn't return. Played on for quite a while, still no error. Went back to a save from right at the beginning, replayed it - no error. I don't know, maybe you have to play a new game non-stop to get that. I'll try starting a new game with the same scenario to see if it happens again.
-
I'm getting the same error in the Ithsmus scenario against Aegis Bot. Game was still running ok, but the screen was filling up with error messages. That's just 2 players (Spartans vs Romans), I've given up trying to play with more than 2 because of the lag.
