  1. I personally disagree, I am also from India and live in a place where people from all parts of India live. You cannot tell where some is from by how they look, a person from U.P looks similar to a person from Tamil Nadu who looks similar to a Gujarati who looks similar to a Kanadiga. Saying you can tell where in India someone came from based on how the look is like saying you tell a fanatical Congressi from a dedicated Hindutvavadi by a single glance. They are all the same people, Indians should not be divided into North Indian and South Indian.
  2. Those people were Brahmin ministers, Brahmins were both minsters and priests. The tuft of hair is called a sikha, almost all Brahmins of that time wore it. Chanakya with his sikha.
  3. I agree, how about this idea: Phillipos has known nothing but war, he was born in an army camp, and raised in the battlefield. Everything he knows has been taught to him be an elderly persian cavalryman called Ustana. Since the death of Alexander 16 years earlier the empire has crumbled, stationed in a frontier garrison in the dense jungles of Punjab, violence and death is the way of life. One day the unthinkable happens, he and Ustana get separated from the rest of the patrol furing a scouting expedition, lost in the jungle and facing an aproaching death Ustana makes a suprising confession - Phillipos is not the young lad's real name, its Alexandros. Alexandros IV.
  4. How about a game that that combines 0ad and an ARPG? The game could set in a world based of 0ad, and have characters based on the civilizations of 0ad, yet still have the feel of a RPG. A persian-like cavalryman, a greek-like hoplite, an iberian-like guerilla, a celtic swordsman, a mauryan-like archer travel around the world together seeking riches and fame. The war torn world the characters live in is a diverse world containing elements of dusty dry plateaus(Iberia), a lush jungle(Maurya Samrajyam), high mountains(Greece) etc. The characters roam that world defeating enemies and earning gold. The gold they earn is used to buy better weapons(i.e the Iberian upgrades his sword from regular to Toledo steel) and learn new techniques(i.e the Persian cavalryman learns archery on horseback).
  5. A modification of Atenmesses52's list of building names, because Sanskrit and English are such different languages I searched for the general idea rather than exact translation. Sources: http://spokensanskrit.de, A Learner's Sanskrit-Tamil-English Dictionary, my mom Civ Center- Rajadhanika (literal meaning- “place”, “king's residence”) House-Griham (lm- “house”) Corral- Goshala (lm- “cowshed”) Mill- Khalla(lm- “mill”) Farmstead- Kantu(lm - “granary”, “barn”) Field- Kshetra(lm-“soil”, “field”) Palisade- Aphalaka(lm- “palisade”, “enclosure”) Outpost- Uparaksana(lm- “outpost”) Barrack- Sainyavasa(lm- “barrack”) Port- Naukasthanaka(lm- “harbour”) Market- Vipana(lm- trading place) Temple- Devalaya(lm- “abode of the gods”, “temple”) Tower – Udarka(lm- “look-out place”) Stone Wall(not sure if needed) – Shilabanda(lm- “stone Wall”) Wall Tower(not sure if needed)- Puratta(lm- “watch tower on city wall”) Gate- Dwara(lm- “gate”, “entrance”) Fortress- Pura(lm- “fortress”) Elephant Stables- Chatura(lm- “elephant-stable”) Pillar- Stambha(lm- “pillar”, "column")
  6. If a temple can be built then I don't think anyone can complain when they get destroyed. Destruction of temples is a relatively minor thing when it comes to religion and video games, I don't think any Hindus or Hindu groups will be offended.
  7. Brilliant job Atenmesse52, the list Iooks mostly correct, I asked my mom who knows some Sanskrit to look at the words. She had some pointers to make: House: Griham (vastati is a verb meaning "dwelling in") Ksetram actually has religious connotation as in "field of sacrifice". It can also mean a place of pilgrimage or holy place. Madhya means "middle" or "center" as the physical location, a different word for Civ Center could be "Rajadhani" meaning "Capital" I'll ask my grandma to go over the words since she knows Sanskrit quite well.
  8. I do not think anyone will have an objection to destruction of temples and altars so long as the destruction of statues of Vishnu, Shiva, or Shakti is not shown.
  9. In my opinion destruction of temples and altars is not a light matter. Tens of thousands of people gave their lives to protect temples and altars, people have cut out their own tongues to protect temples. From Malik Kafur to Auragazeb, foreign invaders have destroyed Hindu temple by the tens of thousands. It seems disrespectful to the memory of all those who gave their lives to protects religious shrines to have the destruction of temples so casually.
  10. In the modern Hindu religon dieties are divided into two groups, Deva, and Bhagavan. Deva mean god with a small g such as Indra, Varuna, Mitra, Surya. Deva are not worshipped as much today as they were in the time of the Mauryas. Bhagavan means God with a capital G, different groups vernerate different Bhagavans such as Vishnu, Shiva, Shakti, Genesha. If we use any statues of them then chances are we will offend some goup.
  11. Maybe we could have Elephant Stables as one of the special buildings since the Maurya were known for their elephants. Like this one, although this one was built a thousand years later. Source:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hampi-Elephant-Stables.jpg
  12. Maybe we should be careful when we use names like Kali because unlike Greek or Roman religions the religon of Ancient India is still practiced today and could offend someone.
  13. This is a really cool game, the graphics and gameplay are wonderful. I was wondering how do you use 3d unit models from 0 ad? How do you use the XML files in another game, or how do you condense the XML file?
