  1. (y) Anyone played this? I absolutely love it. The Sp is great, with tons of new ideas- but the best thing is the "counter-strike style" multiplayer. Medal of Honor had terrible m-player- this game is so darn addicting.

Anyone here have it? Would like to set up a match on mp_carentan:). :self-bash:

  2. Sad world we live in:(.

Honestly, in my opinion, same-sex marriage should be outlawed. Its just not right- its like calling Hitler a hero. It breaks the sacred bond between man and woman and ridicules the lovely occassion that is marriage.

How can two people of the same sex get married? What is marriage? Marriage is when two people, a man and a woman, get together to start a family.

Even if the gay couple adopt a child, imagine the embarassment they'll be placing on the child! Who would want to have gay parents? Would you?

  3. STDs(sexually transmitted disease) are common among homosexuals.

It gives them a bad image because nobody really has any respect for homosexuals. I once read this article where one gay man was complaining on the way his community ridicules gays- so he kept his gay identity secret.

Out of a first hand experience, I can tell you that whenever people see a gay man walking, they either ridicule him or shake their heads in despair. Infact, if you haven't noticed, sometimes people use the word "gay" as an insult.

There's this gay guy at our school. 100% gay, and 100% made fun of. His image destroyed.

  4. Erm, comeon. Its not a right thing to do. Marriage is a sacred act between man and woman- it becomes a fiasco when two men or two women do the same!

Its getting out of hand. Homosexuality can be respected (Gay Bishops, Gay festivals) but we can't let it spread the way its spreading today- homosexuality leads to nothing but STDs and it gives a bad image to the person.

I am totally against the entire idea of same sex marriage and I hope Pres. Bush finds a way to completely abolish the idea.

  5. True. By the way, since we're on the topic of women's rights, did you know that the Middle East was the first area to allow complete women rights- women were allowed to create and manage a buisness, were allowed to divorce, etc... (Middle Ages). It took the Western World all the way till the 20th century to actually give women their rights:). Thousands of years of nagging:). (j/k, lol)

  6. Oh puh-leeze, don't start with me on this subject. We all know that the Bush Government is desperately trying to remind the people that they still want to start 1 million wars.

The only way to do that, ofcourse, is to keep elevating and de-elevating the darn terrorist threat level. We all know its a bunch of bull- Bin Laden is probably dead, a bomb stuck up his @#$%.

  7. I find it deplorable that women would "get a a free ride" because they are generally smaller than men

    Wouldn't mind a "free ride" myself ;).

Honestly, striking a woman is pretty stupid. Women are inferiors, whether they like it or not.

We men dominate the galaxy. The only reason Women ever got their darn "equal rights" is because of their constant nagging. Imagine- the president's wife nagging to him, the senator's wife nagging to him- heck, the garbage man's wife nagging to him. How do you shut them up?

Give them equal rights, ofcourse! ;) Nobody wants to have a woman yapping on you forever.

    :)

As for Chivalry, I don't believe in it, atleast not anymore. Women nowadays feel it normal to bear their breasts, go nude on T.V., magazines and even giant bill boards, and wear the most ridiculously revealing clothes ever created. Heck, Helen of Troy was more decent:).

Not that I'm complaining, I like the view. But, it just shows that nowadays most women go for the "dirty" girl look, and they like the rough type. If you spread your jacket onto the floor for the woman to walk on it, she'd just ignore your "chivalrous" actions to go balk at the Hulk's hulking muscles.

;) As Sulla used to say; "Women are inferiors".

    Its true.

  8. I think, every single nation in history that has had its rise and fall has done so in a very unique way. That the trend continues is part of human nature- but its not neccessary. For example, the United States will never fall- its a fact. The world today is too inter-connected for something of the sort to happen. The world would collapse together would the U.S., should the U.S. fall.

    As you can see-

    Ancient Egyptian "Empire":

Contrary to what you might believe, Egypt has barely known any years of peace. Egypt's extraordinary wealth and its relatively weak armies made it pray to every single predator in the known universe- Hyksos, Assyrians, Hittities, Persians, Macedonians, Romans, Byzantines, and Arabs.

In truth, Egypt truly lost its prominence as a world power when Alexander the Great invader her- thus, we can say that Egypt's downfall is a Military one.

    Macedonian Empire:

The Macedonian Empire built by Alexander the Great was huge. Infact, considering the time period, the Macedonian Empire was expanding quickly and had great potential to become even more powerful than Rome. The problem was- lack of a stable government. While Alexander was a capable general, he was NOT a politician nor a suitable king. He failed to even think about his Empire after his death- his only vision was that of military glory. The only thing that ever occupied his mind other than war was the enfusion of Greek and Persian heritage into one.

Upon Alexander's death, Macedonia fell. The Empire split into many, many factions- each bitterly fighting each other. Infact, many of these factions were led by treachurous old generals of Alexander who refused to agree on a leader of this vast and hard-earned(for nothing) empire.

Thus, we can say that Macedonia's downfall was a "lack of government" case.

    Roman Empire:

Most probably the greatest of them all. The fact of the matter is, the Roman Empire wasn't only great in terms of land, like our previous two Empires. Its government was the best the world had ever produced- its political system was shaped in a way that everyone always found a way to do something legally- that is, until Sulla invaded Rome.

The Roman Empire fell due to internal corruption. After Caesar and his successor Octavian abolished the Republic, the corrupt Empire was formed and soon 5 year old boys were laying claim to the throne. The result- a fiasco. No better than an eastern kingdom. Barbarians overran the Empire and the result was death to the glory and honour of Rome.

Thus, this one can be attributed to "internal corruption".

    Byzantine Empire:

The Byzantine Empire was the most ridiculous to date. It is my personal opinion that the Byzantine Empire was a special type of offshoot from the Roman Empire- it came out of the Roman Empire's @#$% and ended up the nastiest, most corrupt excuse for an empire yet. It was only due to their superb military and malicious cruelty that they were able to conquer so much- but did they hold it? No government could be more corrupt- no government could be more ineffective.

Yet another "internal corruption" case, although this one is more severe.

    Ottoman Empire:

The Ottoman Empire was a somewhat better case than that of the Byzantines. Although reputed for its brutality, the Ottoman Empire was a major success as it managed to maintain a hold on its Empire until World War I, even as it was constantly harrassed by oversees European powers.

The Ottoman Empire's collapse was a purely military one- complete defeat during World War I and the occupation of the Middle East (Britian) rendered them defeated.

This case is a completely Military one.

I think that concludes a list of history's greatest empires. There are more, but can't be bothered to put them all up. The usual causes for an empire's Rise and Fall are outdated- nowadays, the only empires that will ever rise and fall are those of the Taliban, or maybe that of Israel.

Hope I provided some insight on the subject:).

  9. When the word "Great" comes up, we all know who comes up first in everyone's minds. That's right, Gaius Julius Caesar. Not only was he the most superb General and the most witty tactician the world has ever seen, but he was also most probably the most intelligent and capable man ever to exist- even surpassing Einstein himself in intelligence.

Gaius Marius V.S. Gaius Julius Caesar

As a child, Gaius Julius Caesar grew up in a world where too many men struggled for the right to be called "Great". During his childhood, Gaius Marius and Lucius Cornelius Sulla both fought teeth and claws in order to strip away the title from the other- and yet, even amongst all their titanic battles, they still noticed young Caesar and feared him.

To Gaius Marius, who was a "Great Man", the most important thing was to remain the greatest man- forever. He saw as did everyone else that young Caesar would become even greater than him- and for that, he feared Caesar.

Yet, when Marius fell under a stroke, he relied on Caesar to recover. While recovering, he indirectly aided Caesar on his quest towards greatness. Feeding him with military tactics, advice and even political manouvers, Marius foolishly created the greatest man in the world- something he longed to retain to himself.

When Gaius Marius invaded Rome, he went mad. Seeing death come ever closer, he decided to deal with young Caesar atlast. Unable to kill him, he condemned him to a life of solitude as a Priest of Rome- never to touch a weapon, never to eat bread from wheat- never to preside over forum politics. Such was the fate of Caesar that he would never be a great man. Marius died laughing.

Ofcourse, Caesar escaped Marius's trap. Did you know that Marius actually hired a German slave to follow Caesar and kill him should Caesar ever escape his "prison"?

Let me outline both Caesar's and Marius's accomplishments, and you be the judge on who really was the greatest among them.

    Gaius Marius:

    - Won the war in Africa against Jugartha of Numidia.

    - Won the war against the Germans- heavily outnumbered more than 5 to 1.

    - Was consul of Rome 7 times.

    - Marched upon Rome and conquered it with an army of slave warriors.

    - Massacred most (90%) of the Roman nobility.

    Gaius Julius Caesar:

    - Conquered all of Gaul.

    - Marched upon Rome and installed himself as DICTATOR. (Equivalent to a King in some terms).

    - Defeated Cato and Pompey's armies (dubbed the Liberators) in Spain.

    - Conquered Alexandria, the heart of Ptolemic Egypt, defended it against aggressors, defeated a pharaoh, and installed Cleopatra.

    - Conquered 1 million women:P.

Those are just about their main accomplishments. Caesar was assassinated in Rome. Marius died of a stroke after completing the massacre of Rome's nobility.

So what do you think? Who's the greatest of the lot?

  10. Well, I've just finished Colleen Mccolough's "The Grass Crown", which is the second in a series that begun with "The First Man in Rome". I first got hooked to the series when I read "Caesar" and "The October Horse", the last two books out of 6, and as of now I have 2 more to read- Fortune's Favorites and Caesar's Women.

After much reading, I've come to the conlusion that there can be a no more fascinating governmental structure as that of the Roman Republic. If anyone's interested, I would like to have some good debates/discussions with anyone who has some knowledge and/or interest on the era and the Roman Republic.

As many "Roman enthusiasists" know, Lucius Cornelius Sulla was the first man to march upon Rome. His motives were simple- deprived of his right to go to war against Mithridates the Great of Pontus(command was given to Gaius Marius), he led his army to Rome, occupied her, exiled Marius and even executed his companions.

And yet, as you may have noticed, this led to a trend in invasions of Rome. Not so long after, both Lucius Cornelius Cinna and Gaius Marius invaded Rome yet again. What ensued after this invasion was a total disaster. Gaius Marius went insane, an affliction most probably attributed to his regular strokes and to the effect the exile had on him, and brutally massacred the entire Roman nobility. Catalus Caesar, Marcus Antonius Orator, Lutatius Caesar, the list goes on. Apparently, Gaius Marius was reaking vengance on those who made all of his 7 consulships a living hell. Funny how the once beloved hero suddenly became the most hated monster-someone who would be utterly despised for years to come, despite his role in defeating the Germans and saving Rome from destruction.

Later on, Gaius Julius Caesar marched against Rome with one legion and yet again occupied it. This was the last invasion- and the beginning of the end for the Republic.

Which comes to a conclusion. Did Lucius Cornelius Sulla indirectly kill the Republic by starting this "trend"?

(I haven't read up on the aftermath of Gaius Marius's massacre of the Roman nobility, but I do have a general knowledge on the area. Sulla re-invaded Rome and became Dictator, no?)

  11. :band: I've been meaning to ask- with all the publicity O A.D. is getting, have you ever thought of getting a publisher? This just seems a bit- crazy:). You deserve some cash for all this work, afterall! And its obvious you're way ahead in the Game dev. field, so setting yourselves up will be all-too easy- you could be well on your way to making game after game before you even graduate (from university, or high school:)).

Ye'gods, this :drunk: Roman smily is amazin.

  12. Wow great! BTW I applied to be a scenario designer on your team, if you want a little sample of my work you can check out my scenario Heroes of Avalon rated 4.7 (By cheezy monkey and some other guy) on AoMH.

I'm also starting a new proj. soon...

  13. Just dropped by to say hello and to give you my thanks for starting this project. Its a real inspiration to anyone interested in Game Development and its a wonderful idea.

I just have a few questions:

    1) Is you graphics engine more similiar to AoK (2d), RoN (2d and 3d), or Empires: DMW or AoM (Completely 3d).

    2) I've heard that beta testing will be scheduled at 2004. Will this be public, or only for a selected few? And how do you sign up to be one of those selected few, if there are any?
