I am looking forward to seeing this, too. Although I must admitted that I was expecting a " historical film with hordes of celtic warriors charge across the plain leaded by a heroine" kind of film. But let's hope that there are some epic fights in the film.

Not as sexy as a fire ship.
The Vandals also used galleys filled with brushwood and oil to destroy half of a Roman fleet anchored off Cape Bon during the Roman expedition in 469 AD.
So this is historically accurate... at least for the Vandals. I'm don't know if Iberians did use burning ships though.

Hiring mercenary war vessels? Sounds logical to me, but will they accept this proposal? No, i don't think so.
Whoa don't be so negative, I'm pretty sure that there are nothing wrong with hiring mercenary naval ships as long as gameplay goes, and a good proposal has a high chance to be accepted so don't abandon your hope

This is a reply to this thread
http://www.wildfiregames.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=15477&st=20
I made a new thread here in order not to derail the topic and its original purpose
So I've been thinking about this for quite a while, with the coming of the new portraits made by lana and raulfabi, I am here to propose a compromise: Don't scrap the old, place-holder portraits (sprites), we can still use them along with the new portraits.
Below are my arguments:
- A hand-drawn portrait is best used when there are space to show it, this is not true for the tiny button used to train units. The hand-drawn portrait IMHO should be used on the window only (I can't find a decent word for this)
- The sprite portraits is best used on the units training button, because when a player look at a unit standing on the ground, he will instantly know where he can train that type of unit (or what building is used to train that unit)
- Scraping the old portraits, it's a waste of manpower. Even though they're supposed to be place-holders, IMHO they shouldn't be thrown away and I think they're good enough to deserve their own place in the final game.
- Using the hand-drawn portraits for the window and sprite portraits for trainng buttons will add some uniqueness to the game, because a unit now have two portraits, the former for aesthetic purpose and the later for gameplay purpose.
Comments are greatly welcomed.

They wouldn't get into a naval conflict.
Better bend than break

Looks like an Iberian player has to focus on the land first, since Iberian navy is non-existence, trying to win the war with naval is a fool's hope. Iberian players can still have fishing ships and merchant ships but look like they will be constantly harassed by other factions' warships.

I think it's possible, just assign neutral units to the Gaia player

Right, perhaps they lose Health as they perform actions. They are also capturable, like female citizens.
Can they be converted back to soldiers? Like you re-capture the slaves (formerly your soildiers) in an enemy city and spend an amount of resource to re-equip them, this amount should be smaller than the original cost of the soldier before he was captured because we don't have to train him again.
Example: Hoplite cost 50 Food and 60 Wood, re-equip would cost 40 Food and 50 Wood

Hello Phaethon, welcome to the forums
For your question, yes it's normal, the Romans will be added in the up coming Alpha 9 and you'll be able to select them in random scenarios.
Edit: Ninja'd

On a related note, we gotta start a balancing thread somewhere.
Yes this what I've been waiting for, though we should wait until all the features are implemented, which will take a long time

Yes, and what's so wrong about infinite resources if they come much slower than the gathering rate? Age of Empires 3 featured 2 buildings that produced infinite resources: Mill (food) and Plantations (gold). Also Rise of Nations's resources never exhausted.
I think if the rate is slow, then it's probably ok. But I'm more concerned with what direction we are going to take, shall we follow AoE 3 and RoN or do it different? I'm still unsure whether infinite resource is really a bad thing or not, in my earlier post I didn't mean that infinite = bad but the idea may conflict with the existing system of finite resource we're having now.

That sounds logic, at least this reminds me this is not Command and Conquer: Generals.
Thank you.
No need to thank me, I made the same mistakes every now and then.

I think we could consider adding taxation into the game when metal runs out and there are no potential trading partners in the game. By researching taxation, all working civilian or citizen soldier/town levy will generate a steady flow of metal for the player.
Wouldn't this mean infinite resource? Cause the metal generated can be traded for other resources via Market = infinite resources

I guess the guys is just joking around, now let us move on.
About the your suggestion of the Save function, yes this feature will be added eventually in the upcoming versions, personally I'd like to have 3 save options:
- Autosave (turned off by default): with an option the adjust the frequency of the autosave
- Quick save: accessible from the upper menu bar, for players who are too busy playing to wait for a proper saving process
- (Normal) save: like you suggested, players can rename their saves, load or delete it from a Save window in-game
Many features and animations are still missing from the game, but let us be patient and they will be added.

Sworn enemies.
Nice screenshot!

Hello Kira, welcome to the forums!

Need something more Roman. :/ I like Janus, but in Latin it's Ianus, which has unfortunate connotations in English.
Hmm, more Roman? Let see what I can find before Alpha 9 comes out.

I'm late to the party, but here is a good name: IONIA
Ionia is an ancient region of central coastal Anatolia (Asia Minor), now in the modern Turkey. In antiquity Ionia is known for many great philosophers it produced, including Thales, Anaximander, Aniximenes, Pythagoras, Heraclitus, Empedocles, Anaxagoras, Archelaus.

I think palisades though, if we implement them, will be restricted to player's territory.
Fine by me.

I can't believe I just discovered this game, I've always been a fan of AOE2 /Aom/ Rise of nations and so on. Imo those are the best RTS"S ever. This one looks a LOT LIKE THEM and it's still improving. Amazing tracks, updates, game Keep up the good work!
I still play aoe2 through gameranger from time to time:D
You are right, AoE and AoM are both very good game, and 0 A.D. will be very good too (maybe even better )
And of course, welcome to the community!

IIRC, he lost his right eye because of conjunctivitis, so the eye patch should be on the right, not left.
Other than that, nice portrait
