  1. Agreed - a Nazi Empire would not last very long. The Nazi Party WAS Hitler and Hitler WAS the Nazi Party. Surviving Nazi officials paint us a picture of the Nazi government where nothing happened without Hitler's involvement (such micromanagement probably cost them the war). Official after official looked for ways to please the Furer in a never ending bloated beuracracy.

I think any Nazi Empire wouldn't live long past Hitler.

  2. Guardian ignores the obvious difference in order to further his particular agenda. That's nothing new in the history of humanity, I'm afraid.

The Coalition does not target civilians.

    The Terrorists deliberately target civilians.

And therin lies the rub. If the terrorists had targeted a military installation instead of passenger trains full of people going to and from their civilian jobs, this discussion would be much different. That is the difference between freedom fighters and terrorists. Freedom Fighters target military/political institutions. Terrorists target defenseless civilians. Assuredly, this line does sometimes become blurred, but it is the overall tactics that distinguish the two - and distinguished the terrorists from the West.

  3. I'm thinking of a reverse list. Yes, that would do nicely! ;)

Why is is better to be taller? Why does society promote this notion? Think about it. I believe it has its roots in aggression and violence (those supposed marks of "masculinity"). Also, studies have shown that taller people are given more promotions at work and better wages. Is this because the genes for height determine someone's work ethic or mental fortitude? Highly doubtful. As society becomes more and more aggressive, this kind of thing happens more and more.

I could go on and on about this. However, I must assure you all that I am completely comfortable with my height - other people don't seem to be though. Others bring it up more than I, and it is usually in a negative connotation (although, usually in a joking manner). This is a societal problem, and I suspect it will be the last to be addressed (if ever).

Sorry to rain on the party. :)

  4. I think there was a point there where Russia was on the verge, but their industrial and manpower capacity was just too enormous for the Germans to overcome. It's interesting to note that at no point did the Germans ever have numerical superiority, but still managed to conquer 90% of Europe.

Flame Bait Alert (just hear me out): And in a way, I admire what the Germans/Nazis did for themselves from 1933-1942. In no way do I support what the Nazis did to the Jews, nor do I deny the Holocaust as a horrible event in human history... But the Germans managed to reorganize their society, recover from WWI and the Depression, and conquer most of Europe in 10 short years. This is no meager feat, and they should be recognized as an amazingly industrious people.

From the "Allies'" end, I believe this is one of the truly "necessary" wars in history. Nazi Germany simply had to be stood up to, or all would be lost.

Now, imagine if Hitler had been content with leaving Russia alone and had all those armies in France and Italy during the Normandy and Sicilian Allied Invasions. Europe might have been under the jack boot of the Nazi thugs for decades! What if Hitler decided to invade Britain instead of Russia? What if the U.S. had stayed out of the European Theater altogether? Interesting "what ifs."
