Have you tried changing the file-type to be .dae (just "rename" it to be exactly the same but with lowercase .dae instead of uppercase .DAE). I have a feeling I've heard that causing issues before, so it's definitely worth trying.
I think only Philip would be able to do anything about that. I haven't really noticed any problems so at least from my perspective it's not a high priority issue. You should try to catch Philip in IRC and discuss it with him. He hasn't been reading the forums in months.
