  1. I'm not aware whether any consensus has already been reached about this, but it seems to me like the way you propose is the better alternative, for one because making units move out of the way first creates pathfinding hazards/nightmares. I also don't think players would particularly mind to have the occasional unit walk "through" a wall gate that's swinging open, but they might mind the opposite: e.g. if at some point they need to retreat quickly but can't open their gates because they have 200 units in the way queueing up in front of the gate.

  2. As sankrant.chaubey pointed out, Kautilya would have been a great choice (another name for Chanakya of the Mauryan faction) but the Mauryans wont be ready by Alpha 11.

  3. Now testing on my netbook with an 'Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)' graphics adapter. Tree animations works with no issue ( ). Parallax mapping works nicely in Atlas: It also works in-game, though lightning of the terrain flickers back and forth several times a second (normal, darker, normal, darker etc.) If I disable GLSL, there is no flickering. If I enable GLSL with the unpatched master branch, I also experience flickering. (Conclusion: Flickering not due to your changes, but due to a problem in the GLSL support, hardware or software.)

  4. This was mainly discussed on irc. You can take a look at http://irclogs.wildfiregames.com/2012-02-04-QuakeNet-#0ad-dev.log . That is the main discussion I found with a quick search but there are quite a lot of other mentions.

  5. Horses are faster, easier to use in melee,.. Only in desert regions are they more usefull as a war mount because of them being more available, cheaper and obviously much accustomed to the lack of water, climate and terrain. Still Arabs preferred cavalry over camelry as well especially for tactical reasons, camels of course had their strategic benefits in their region though.
