These are marble examples of the pose. Basically, her aspis should be held off the ground on her left arm and her spear held planted by her right hand.

The Athena Promachos, a colossal bronze statue sculpted by Phidias around 456 BCE, stood approximately 9 meters (30 feet) tall. Including its pedestal, the total height of the monument reached about 15 meters (49 feet). It was located on the Athenian Acropolis and was visible from the sea.

  • Height: ~9 meters (30 ft)
  • Total Height (with base): ~15 meters (49 ft)
  • Location: Between the Propylaea and the Parthenon on the Acropolis.
  • Appearance: A bronze, standing, armed figure (warrior) holding a spear and wearing a helmet.
  • Visibility: The helmet crest and spear tip were reportedly visible to sailors off Cape Sounion.

The statue was designed to represent Athena as a warrior, or Promachos ("she who fights in the front line"), and was created using spoils from the Persian Wars.
