Multiplayer Rankings - How do they work? How often do they update?

As the title states, how do the rankings work and how often do they update? I've won games but my ranking has not changed.

Your rating changes immediately after a rated 1v1 multiplayer game. The game must end normally, one player defeated and both present at that time.

Mapkoc , can we change the system ?  with a bot host a game ranked and 2 random opponent

That would be ideal, 0ad lobby hosting all the rated games but servers are needed and programming and decisions (what happens if someone drops connection), etc.
