The sanctuary of Artemis Orthia seemed to have been a major place in terms of worship in Sparta:

As there are few remains of the sanctuary, it would permit some liberty for 0ad artists.

The spartan representations of their divinities seem to have been rather archaic, with wooden statues inside the temples. Here is a representation of Artemis in ivory, the spartan representation may have been in the same style:

It's a pile of rocks now lol, well.. I suppose I've worked with less. It would be nice to visually differentiate the Greek states too, especially before  building wonders.

As far as I'm concerned, different fortresses, and more differentiate CCs and temples would be enough (and wonders of course)...
