Hey guys, a friend and I couldn't figure out how to start a multiplayer game over the Internet. And don't post a reply like "start a VPN" -- that means nothing to me.

How do you perform multiplayer games? He typed in my IP, to no avail. I typed in his IP, to no avail.

What a relief! Thanks for the input. Yesterday I was so exasperated after trying things for a few hours. We're both new(ish) to Linux, and all the advice I could find on the Internet was obviously posted for [and by] people who live and breathe this OS. It's supposedly easier and more stable, but I have yet to find the "easier" part to be true. We will try your advice and post back here if we can find some constructive hints for future n00bs!

Port forwarding usually isn't related to Linux or Windows. You just need a web browser, type the address of your router/modem and then you need to find the right menu where you can set it to forward UDP port 20595 to your computer.

Here's a little video from youtube that explains it.

Where he types "ipconfig" to get his computer's ip-address you need to use "ifconfig" on Linux instead.
