Age:17Occupation:I am currently a student at Dearborn Heights Virtual Academy (which helps with availability)and work at JR Express as a Driver's Assistant.Skills and Experience:I have always been interested in audio producing, everything from recording the wind blowing through trees to my own music, I feel that sound can really change the mood of a videogame. I have a professional quality recording studio in my basement, with high fidelity microphones used to record vocals and musical instruments, but I would have no problem using it to record anything needed. I also have some experience in scripting levels in some games such as ArmA II and Men of War, even though it isn't really my forte. I am also currently taking Game Design courses in my Academy.Motivation:I have been following 0 A.D. for some time now, and I feel that it is my time to contribute to the project. Personality:A creative mind that enjoys music, history, and gaming.Short Essay:I discovered Wildfire Games whilst searching for Open Source strategy games about three years ago, and was quickly drawn to their projects. There are many reasons I want to be part of the project, but the biggest one is because I want to use my skills to help make 0 A.D. even more immersive. I seek to gain experience in game development and make new friends.Interests and Hobbies:I am an avid runner, I run two miles a day. I am also a bookworm and history nut, The book I am currently reading is "Infantry Attacks" by Field Marshall Erwin Rommel. My favorite fields of historical studies include 18th Century politics and the Second World War. I am also a huge fan of the rock band "Soundgarden," having seen them twice in concert and being an active member on their forums.Staff:N/ACommunity:The Tripwire Interactive, and Soundgarden World Forums.Favorite Game:I have currently been playing a lot of Total War: Shogun 2, but my top favorite games of all time is probably the first Red Alert, the Total War series, Age of Empires II, Doom, and ArmA.WorkExamples:N/A Edited September 17, 2012 by Howitzer114

Ludo38
Hello Austin ! Welcome to the forum!I enjoy your motivation and totally agree on how much good sound contributes to immersion for a game. For me, 0AD already has a very good sound work, but I am curious what can be explored further, so glad to see your skills and tools available for the game.In filmmaking too, a great sound design can give terrific immersion and realism, though we might not realize it consciously in the first place.
Howitzer114
Thanks!I was thinking maybe some more variation to the unit voices, to add more depth, or possibly a feature where when a large group of units are in combat there can be a "crowd combat" type noise, because, in my opinion, when there are large melees, everything sounds flat. Some sort of ambient yelling, grunts of pain and sword clashing sfx could make the big fights more interesting. I understand that it'd need to have a script written for it, which I could probably handle, I've done stuff like this before in old CnC games before.Skip to 2:00, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yr8rRoGnJIs I want it to sound something like this; That really chaotic sound of yelling and weapons. Ludo38
Waow, great sound indeed in Shogun2's melees ! I understand how much it would had to the game. Cool if that is possible to add !Recently I watched excerpts from the movie Alexander (Oliver Stone), and the huge battle of Gaugamela has some impressive army crowd noises. I like that
Howitzer114
Yea! It really adds a whole new level of immersion, doesn't it? I figure I can get some friends and family over to record the yelling, and I got a whole bunch of items to use for the weaponry. Howitzer114
Well. I am back. Sorry for the long absence. What would you like to hear some samples of? I can record you anything from ambient sounds in my backyard to some sword fight or random Foley work. If you like, I can make a huge .zip file of little sfx like footsteps, or metal, stone, or wood impact noises.
