lilstewie
A part of the 2,500-year-old archaeological site in Mahasthangarh. Antiquities found at the site suggest it was founded sometime in the 4th century BC and came to prominence during the great Mauryan dynasty that held sway over much of the Indian subcontinent until 185 BC.http://www.france24....sh-ancient-cityhttp://en.wikipedia....i/MahasthangarhThe citadal's design and placement is similar to Sisupalgarh.A Bangladesh-France joint excavation team unearths ruins of an ancient observation tower at Mahasthan Garh archaeological site in Bogra. The tower was used for military purposes and later damaged in a strong earthquake, said Dr Barbara Faticoni, a French member of the team.Source: http://www.thedailys....php?pid=125979Workers digging out an ancient brick wall of Maurya dynasty at Mahasthangarh archaeological site in Bogra recently.Photo: STARSource: http://www.thedailys....php?nid=175698Bricks no doubt were in use in the Mauryan period. lilstewie
Some sort of palace. Satavahana made reliefsA siegeAlthough made of stone, they were carved and constructed in the manner of wood and the gateways were covered with narrative sculptures.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SanchiChariothorseelephantThe below-most panel depicts a scene of a royal procession. The king is shown entering from the city gates riding over his chariot. Inside the city an elephant is driven behind a horse. Various multi-storey buildings can be seen inside the city. People are witnessing this procession standing in their balconies. Marshall identifies it with Bimbisara’s retinue which is issuing from the city of Rajagriha on a visit of Buddha.http://puratattva.in/2012/03/21/sanchi-buddham-dhammam-sangham-4-1478.html Edited August 25, 2012 by lilstewie

lilstewie
Only known depiction of Ashoka. The discoveries a the site included a broken relief sculpture showing a king and queen flanked by female attendents two of whom held up a parasol and fly whisk – symbols of sovereignty – in their hands. An Inscription in Brahmi read “Ranyo Ashoka”(King Ashoka) leaving no doubt who the central figure was supposed to represent. http://storyofkannada.blogspot.com/2009/12/karnataka-ashoka-s-swarnabhoomi.html#.UDxDEtZlT_o Edited August 28, 2012 by lilstewie

That show is made in the 90s and has a low budget, but it's the must accurate of all the videos, movies, etc I've seen of that period in India.A lot of these Indian film makers make simple mistakes like adding curved swords(talwar) and push daggars(katar) in films on Indian antiquity. Basically adding medieval India into ancient India. These guys have done great research. Edited August 28, 2012 by lilstewie
Pureon
Looking through some of the Chanakya episodes, there are many strong architectural references we can benefit from: Brick/stone white-washed structures with wooden roofing and decorations appear to be common. MishFTW
The historical accuracy of the show is quite high, especially in terms of the story.

Mythos_Ruler
I have a question. When are you guys going to release the preview of the Mauryans? The next released Alpha (very soon, probably this week or so) will have a placeholder Mauryan faction you can tool around with. The majority of the modeling and texturing will happen between Alpha 11 and Alpha 12.

om_rahul
Not so useful for this time period.Yes not that useful, before posting i thought about this, then i realize it can give overview about ancient architect of India. Before ruling of British on India, India follow their traditional system. Especially pictures before 1700 BC. May be after seeing them, give little bit clarity to designer. Like boats, walls, costumes, flora and fauna.

The costumes, walls, etc not really. It's like using images of medieval Europe for ancient Rome. Or using British pictures of Manchu-Qing China for the Han Empire. There's a gap of over 1000+ years.Architecture in India changed and evolved rapidly. Those images I've seen are medieval. Like the Chola temples. om_rahul
Rahul, there is nothing in there that's even close to being before 1700 BC, trust me.Yeah, the boats can be useful. The costumes, walls, etc not really.Hm, you'r right, Well i am not concerned with all photos. **My mistake**, i haven't choose particular photos, which i want to show. *** it take time, i will do it tommorow, my internet not working this days properly *** my bad luck .Clothes: Tradition cloths are still followed dhoti and women dress (don't know exact hindi name, we call it lnga).Architecture in India changed and evolved rapidly.Yes, but there are the things still followed. I see the houses in Chankay(TV shows), but i can say this type of houses are common in villages not in this days, but i seen it around 10 years ago and people live there. Even my village house is also made of mud and stones. You can found wooden or grass shelters in fields (khat).I think there is no real photo given of Maurya time Architect. There is pix's of temple made by ashoka. but that resembles more budhisum.About Gate:Here are the the gate and wall Shown in Chandragupta Mauryan "Tv series"https://dl.dropbox.com/u/95175457/Workspace%201_012.pngEducation Center ( popular university of that time) where education is only given to king sons.https://dl.dropbox.com/u/95175457/Workspace%201_010.png.What we can say about this, if u look at this university photo.. it doesn't look little bit similar today we see temples. But the Tv show position all the things properly as according to that patliputr education center architect. (training, conference, teacher rooms. and there is one map inside university which tells direction Where u can find particular room. Everything according to vastukala.
