Similar to Oasis, but with the River Nile running down the middle of it with two wide fords for access to each half.

This will come with the Alpha release slated to be released soon.

That ford is amazing. Is it terrain with a leafy texture or an actor?

It is multiple floating actors.

That's beautiful. The one question I have is why the barren sand comes so close to the river. AFAIK the land right along the river valley was so fertile it was called "black" and made Egypt the grainary of the Roman Empire.

The modern Nile Valley is rapidly losing its fertility ever since the river was dammed, so that photo might not even capture how it used to be. But I haven't researched this subject.

Regardless, the new map is lovely.

also, pardon my ignorance, but does this mean a roughly playable 0ad will be available?

But as far as the next release goes, the game will be a much improved, noticeably better experience from the previous release. Still not 100%, but you will be pleased I think.

Good grief... that looks good.

Just a color-correction shader (See: Crysis) and the photo and the model would look nigh-indistinguishable.
