There are some really great Blender tutorials out there. My pc is currently down, but I have some links I can give you when I get it back. IIRC there was one called "Blender Noob To Pro" That I really liked. There are some video tuts on youtube as well. I would google "Blender noob to pro" and start there.Hope this helps.
