  1. I don't like the trend of major-corps buying up smaller projects..

Sure, the projects might get out to more people... but in the end only things with corp support are going to be used by people, and we'll be on par with "real life" (whatever that means ;p ).

  2. 200Hz?! o_o;

I don't have a backup monitor (nor the cash to get one >o<) so I'll leave dechecking of supported modes only and the expeirmenting to you :X

I can, however. rotate the screen with the driver set I have now. It's fun to mess with people by having the display upside down. xD

    I run 1280x1024@60Hz

  3. There were certainly other pressured involved, such as waving a big stick at Russia (and, really, to the rest of the world). When the enemy can demolish an entire city in the blink of an eye, it's a lot harder to get the people in the cities that may be targeted to support the country. I think, especially after World War I, that a lot of people were pushing for an ending that settles everything in all peoples minds. For a lot of people, that ending just happened to be wiping a city or two off the map with two bombs.

Sure, they could have bomb'd an island or similar, but the effect isn't the same as having a city go away in an instant. Just look at what a more predictible natural disaster did to New Orleans. That city is gone, and the government was in a state of shock about it. Now imagine if people claimed to target cities with hurricane ~_~

  4. Pascal's Gamble then? It assumes that belief in God alone is enough to save someone's soul, as well as not actually picking a religion but stating to be religious.

If you are of the persuasion that the only thing that you need to do so that your soul will be saved is the believe in God, then perhaps it holds, but I think there are probably other criteria such as being nice, giving, etc.

  5. A famous scientist told in the past that statistically speaking, is more difficult to speculate about God non-existence, than about His existence. Practically, there is more probability to the advantage of His existence than the opposite.

The only thing I'd like to know is, what science? :3?

  6. I'd think a lot of Iraqies are pretty supportive of the death sentence in this instance, but that doesn't make it any more right. Not to mention the potential martyrdom that could be placed upon him from his religious sub-division. If the people of Iraq decide to institute the death sentence, they should be fully willing to accept the concequences both within their own country and on the international stage (i.e. from Amnesty International, etc.).

  7. You can, however, disprove the Bible, as it is (reportedly) a collection of observations. Being the key building block in Christian religions, disproving the Bible (as a whole) will shake if not crumble the foundation of Christianity.

Not to say that people would just stop believing in Christianity. I think there's a bit more to religion than just pleasing God(s)

  8. Does this mean that gravity was variable in its power when humans were not around?

I meant this only in the sense that the gravity average on Earth would not be 9.81m/s^2 because there were no humans to decide what a meter is or what a second is. A lack of quantification rather than gravity stablizing as soon as the first human existed.

  9. that "something open" is jabber, I believe...

Also, from what I gather the voice is built on top of the Jabber client, so maybe someone just has to create a common voice codec/format for Gaim/Miranda/others :x?

  10. tested it out a little, and it seems ok.. a little too spaced out for my tastes, and I would want to customize it more. Of course, I could always use a different client, so there really isn't a problem ^,^

  11. And ProgramZeta, not only have you 4 big problems with this view, but if gravity is present when there is no life, it obeys the Laws of Physics, and Physics flows from Logic. From that, it is a simple deduction to the Laws of Logic. Logic was here before us, and it will be here when we die.

Just because we aren't around doesn't mean something doesn't exist. Like I said before, gravity would exist, just not at 9.81m/s^2 because there would be no humans to quantify it. The Laws of Physics are what we have observed again, and again, and again until such time that we know, in every instance, that this is true. The Laws of Physics explain the natural world in ways that we can analyze and predict, and just because they aren't around doesn't mean that suddenly Physics stops working. For a time in human history, people thought the solar system revolved around the Earth, until such evidience was brought forward to revise the theory. Just because logic (at that time) dictated that everything rotated around the Earth, it did?

Logic is a human tool and neccesity that describes our world to the best of our ability.

    Just for kicks:

If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it still make a sound?

  12. "The fact that logic is 'immaterial' ..." Atheists aren't allowed immaterial, Mythos.

I do believe the fiat currency system is immaterial. Does that mean that atheists can't be involved in the free market? Perhaps intangible was a better word here?

As far as my (uneducated?) understanding, logic is just a human implementation of what we (as a speices) know to be true. Just because humans aren't around, doesn't mean gravity didn't exist. It just doesn't exist at 9.81m/s.

    As for

What is the definition of information?

My definition is anything transmittable through communication.

( My apologies if this is a bit rough, it's late >_> )

  13. Mythos Ruler:

It makes perfect sense, Mythos. Either there is a god or there isn't. See, if there is a "spirit" or "force" that would not go under the "god" group, it would go under the "no god" group. If it's not a god, it's not a god. If there is something that fits in the "god" group, than it would not fit in the "no god" group. So there actually is only 2 choices, not multiple.

The way it's worded leaves out everything else, but doesn't not exclude it (a proper double negative?!). On a similar but slightly offtopic note, is an "intelligent singular force" considered on the God or Not God side?

  14. man, ps3 will own Revolution, but the battle between ps3 and XBOX 360 will be interesting, because they are both very powerfull.

i think ps3 will win though, they have far more game-rights than Microsoft

Care to give reasons as to why Revolution is going to be in last place? Nintendo has the most varied rights in terms of games, and their first party games are undeniably the best. Nintendo hasn't released Revolution specifications (or for that matter, anything other than some scattered features), so right now power can't be a credible competition. If anything it seems that Nintendo is behind because of the lack of media (read: lack of hype). Personally I fail to see how superdetailed player models make the game that much better.
