  1. Necromancy is trying to contact the dead to foretell the future and stuff like that. Not quite just "talking" to the dead.

Anyhow, are we going to have a new question? I don't think any of hte regulars know the six talents of ESP.

  2. That's a real bummer Andy.

Some friends of mine in Europe were absolutely shocked, and very rightfully so (!), that America makes it's most talented students pay around 40,000 dollars a year to attend the top private universities!

And the financial aid certainly doesn't cut anyone slack!

If you are a genius, have some unusual talent, or are leagues above everyone else at the school you may attend, merit scholarships are pretty common. For everyone else, don't expect a ton.

Andy, I'm the same sort of high school do-it-all right kid. Got the >4.0, handful of AP's, sports, eagle scout, leadership camps and service activities (although I can say that I certainly didn't do it just to suck up to colleges). Hopefully I can end up at a better school than my fifth choice, although ironically enough my fourth choice is about the best I can reasonably hope to not only get accepted into, but handle a double major at :king:

  3. Andy, you're right, and sorry to offend you, but I was thinking that sometimes people are a little more motivated to become moral even if it's not to their benefit (that's when what I said really comes into play) with the threat of eternal darnation :king:.

But you're right, there are plenty of atheists who value virtue for it's own sake, and there are more than a few Christians who fail to give a charitable example to the rest of the world.

  4. Andy really hit the nail on the head with regards to cross country. I've had the same experience to a degree, and now running is an integral part of my life. I know plenty of other kids who God knows where they'd be if they didn't have some sort of school sponsored sport to put their energies towards.

And also, he's right about the "glory" sports. Our football team won state a few years back, but since then has failed to get into the championships again, and it still recieves a ridiculous amount of funding as compared to the cross team, which has had a runner/team in state for the last 3 or 4 years. Our coach pays for stuff out of his own pocket for the team, and that shouldn't have to happen.

  5. Yes! I finally have heard them.

I like them both. The non-traditional modes are great for giving an effect of "other-worldness" (or, "other-timeness"). However, I'm not familiar at all with composing in those modes. Also, the sampling software I have is geared a lot more heavily towards orchestra. There is no voice. That won't matter for the games music, just means I can't imitate this sound right now.

Anyhow, good finds. I like them a lot, and although I can't compose in that style yet, I will take them into consideration when doing sketches.

  6. In the US, that is referred to as the flag code, and it is suggestion, but not law.

As for burning the flag, we've all reached the agreement I think that the only reason it ever offends is because the flag means different things to different people. I think the happy medium to let those who want to burn stuff and hate the government still have their right to while not being too offensive to everyone who thinks the flag ought to be treated with respect is to burn other things that more specifically represent the object of hate. I'm short on ideas... pres. Bush dolls? Pictures? You never know. But if we could find a few more outlets for pyromania, we could clear up quite a bit. All those who worry that protestors hate our entire country, its entire populace, and its entire history can rest assured that, no, the protestors just hate the current administration, or a specific action of the admin. And I don't know from experience, but it's probably a lot cooler to burn someone in effigy than to burn a flag. :)

  7. Well, Mr. Vana, you need to keep up to date on community news :).

    http://www.wildfiregames.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=8598

The short of it is that we're actually not talking to you, and I haven't taken credit for "you" being longwinded and Yiuel didn't respond to a message personally directed at "you" and Klaas didn't comment on "your" clever use of tags.

Instead, we've just implemented the most confusing tag this forum has ever known! :D

A complete scumbag? That seems a bit outrageous for burning some symbolic pattern of fabric. Maybe calling that person "ungrateful" is a better choice?

OK, they're ungrateful too. I'm not going to say I hate people who burn flags, because I don't, but I certainly don't hold their actions in the highest esteem. Which is my prerogative.

For different people, the flag is different things. For some, it is "some symbolic pattern of fabric". For others it is the visual manifestation of all the sweat, blood and tears that have gone into the founding and continuation of this nation.

People who burn it think "I hate the president, let's burn the flag". While others see those people and think "they hate all the sweat, blood...".

Anyhow, two more of my cents, for free ;)

  8. Mythos, you are surrounded by the evidence. You are the evidence. I believe it, because like I said DNA- simple atoms- don't just go through the steps of reproduction.

Mythos think about this... A strand of DNA meets with a protein- a helicase it's called, and unravels. Then primase and polymerase seperately copy different parts of the split DNA strand... and these are not organ systems working, these are atoms that you can count. And they perform complex tasks. What drives them?

Or even the human brain. These 3 pounds of neurons and tissues found in the skull of every human being are pretty much the most complex computer in the known universe. If that wasn't enough, many brains also believe in a higher moral purpose and have a unique perception of beauty that no other animals have. Interestingly enough, neither of those two things are particularly useful in natural selection.

Anyhow, I think you keep looking at keyholes and denying they're any proof of a key. But maybe that's just a difference between people. One sees a keyhole and says "of course there's a key, people don't make these things for the heck of it" and some say "show me the key. I will not believe there is a key until I can feel the grooves on it's side".

    Anyone catch that allusion there?

Yeah Clodhopper, go ahead and PM any link you want to.

  9. Oh so I'm long winded now? Is that it? I thought my post was right to the point!

JK yes, I think I realize the crafty use of the name tag.

And Michael, sure, no one cares about burning the Nazi flag because burning everything the Nazis stand for isn't that bad... I mean we have hate, murder, propaganda of lies... (plus theyre all dead really)

As opposed to the US flag, where we hopefully have the values of democracy, freedom and hard work. And it's also an insult to the 300 million people who live here.

  10. Ah sorry for the misunderstanding! I mean neither of them work as in the files will not play on my computer.

And because of that, I can't offer any judgement, but it appears you guys like them :D.

Hopefully I can offer you some samples of what music in TLA might sound like, but I'm 3 feet (1 meter ;)) over my head with all these computer mixing programs and stuff that I got (it came in a suite, and with no real guide books... wonderful!). By the end of the summer, I hope to show you a sampling of what music might (key word: might) be like in TLA, just so you can compare it to these ideas.

And I'm not at all against having anyone else on the music dept. After all, I'm just a concept musician as it stands, and I'm a busy guy.

So anyhow, keep finding new stuff, it's good to see such enthusiasm, and hopefully the files will play on my computer next time :(.

  11. Clodhopper, it's not that I think it's unimportant to discuss, but in my experience, whenever evolution comes into play, two stereotypical sides develop. One side who thinks the Bible contains every detail of the creation of the universe, and one side who is so wrapped up in the flag of the god of science that they cannot even fathom an intelligent designer.

These are stereotypes, I am not referring to anyone in particular on these boards.

Each side is unwilling to give concessions to the other, because each side is so firm in it's own belief that they cannot fathom anything the other side has to say is correct. Well, if fossilized skeletons are any representation of what life was like before I was born, I'd say there were things on this planet before there were humans, and for a little longer of a time than a few days. Whether those things evolved into human? Personally, I don't think so, I think our ability to percieve beauty, see a morality, feel emotion... they set us too far apart from anything I know in my book. As for life evolving from a rock/soup of elements, in no way can I believe that. In a trillion chances, I cannot fathom DNA as chance. DNA is incredible... it is just atoms thick, you can count every single atom in it's spiral... but yet it knows how to replicate itself, and routinely does so millions of times a second in things living on this globe. Never will I believe it is chance.

Well, that's my view Clodhopper. It's not unimportant, but their are things more important than that, from a Christian perspective (which I assume you're arguing from). You know, no one ever converted because they though evolution was wrong, they converted because they thought God was right.

  12. Good topic idea. Last CD I bought was Flogging Molly's "Within a Mile of Home".

They're quite the band- mix punk rock with Irish traditional music and you've got quite the combo. Anyhow, I like 'em plenty.

I may head over to the library today to get a recording of some Beethoven Violin Sonatas, based on the fact that I'm currently playing one.

  13. Yes Clodhopper, I am. However, I choose instead of debating in this thread to just sit on the sideline and post links to articles from The Onion because to me there are much more important and applicable things in Christianity besides the technical details of the creation of the universe.

As far as I'm concerned, God created the universe, gave man a soul and set him apart from every other living thing and whether he did it in seven days or seven millions years, I frankly don't see how it concerns my daily life. But yeah, I'm on "your side", if that's what you wanted to hear.

    Let the debating continue! :D

  14. No way, I thought I was gonna be the first to admit to a Bejeweled addiction!!!

    Argh! :D

That game is really addicting, despite the fact that it's so simple. I can't boast playing it 60 hours in a week though.

That and minesweeper... I just played and played. Here are my ridiculous minesweeper records:

    Easy: 7

    Medium: 84

    Hard: 340

Actually I may have reset those. But I'm a minesweeper beast.

Oh, and you can't forget Age of Empires... soooo addicting.
