That sounds like an interesting story. Is it a book?
My own belief is that sometime between now and 2050, there will be a massive world war (call it World War III if you like). It will begin with North Korea invading South Korea and the US coming to the aid of South Korea. China (with the world's largest military) will see an American attack on NK as a threat and declare war on the US. The Americans will be backed up by Britian, Japan and a few other countries. The North Koreans will eventualy use nuclear weapons (that they either have right now or are building right now) that will be targeted against SK or Japan. The US will counter-attack with their nuclear weapons, and China will retailiate with theirs. The world will perish in a nuclear holocust or the radiation fallout afterwards, and humanity will cease to exist having destroyed itself. Pretty bleak, huh? I'm probably wrong though .

I was wondering if I have to join the reading group? In case nobody here knows me, I'm active in the 0ad forums, but a couple days ago I started readly LOTR (as I do every year around this time) and I decided visit these forums. Currently I am at Chapter 4, Book 2- a Journey in the Dark. I would really like to get involved in the discussions here, so do I have to sign up anywhere or can I just jump in?

Regarding the following topics, what are some opinions on what the world might be like in the year 3000?
- Nations: what new nations might form in 1000 years, and will any of the countries we know today still thrive?
- Religion: will Christianity, Islam, Judaism and all the other major major religions still have followers? Will there be new religions, or will atheism become more prevelent in society?
- Space Exploration: will we have visited, even colonized other planets? Will we perhaps discover that humanity is not alone in the universe?
- Technology: what new gadgets and technologies will our descendants have available to them?
- Healthcare: will humans have found cures to greatest illnesses of our time, like AIDS or cancer? Will we even have a cure for death itself?

I put down Romans since my great (by how many times I'm not sure) grandfather was an Italian merchant from Rome who moved to Austria in the 1400s. My family tree goes back almost 700 years! As he and just about all my ancestors before him came from Rome, that gives me the blood of the Romans . I suppose I would also have some Celtic and Germanic blood since my family became Austrian.

I would just like to know, what are the major challenges that WFG faces in making 0ad?
-
I'm currently learning programming, but its hard . I'm really only fit to do history, but the history dept. is full.
-
I think WFG got into another magazine years ago when they made the Rome at War mod for AoK.
-
The final episode was good, besides the utter lack of historical accuracy. I thought this show was supposed to be about Octavius's rise to power and the founding of the Roman Empire, but Octavius didnt really take charge until he had returned to Rome after defeating Antony and Cleopatra, but they didnt show that.
-
I have watched all the episodes except the first one. Its a very good series, but not very historicaly accurate.
-
Will we be able to get 0ad on a CD, rather than download it?
-
I suppose my biggest concern about a map editor is user-friendliness. An in game tutorial would be very helpfull as well as a ful and detailed list of the triggers and what they do. Perhaps a guide mode inside the editor would be a handy tool for newbies. Whatever you do, please, please do not let you editor be anything like the AoK editor!
-
How about puting in options to turn on/off the effects, then you can satisfy those who like good effects and those with the minimum requirements?
-
Will units be able to walk through forests?
Also, I just noticed this, but do you have attack-dog units? I just saw that dog behind the celtic units, and thought that a dog might make a good unit.
-
Congratulations for getting 0ad in a magazine . This should get WFG more support and members.
Can anyone send me a copy, I dont live in the UK

How easily will it be to create modpacks and will there be a specific modpack program for 0ad like Modpack Studio for AoK?

I think the Clibanarii were created by Hadrian to be the Roman version of the Persian Kataphractoi, and they carried a number of weapons, but I am possibly mistaken about the bow. At any rate the Romans did not use cavalry archers to any great extent.
The list I gave covers most of the Roman Republican era, and with a Legionary as the infantry super-unit you would also cover the Marian reforms.
-
Good list of Roman troops there, covering a spread of 600 years of history But I have to ask, clibanarii for horse archer? With all that armor?
I believe Clibanarii were sort of the Roman versions of the Persian Kataphractoi, armed with a sword, mace and bow. Just an idea.
Just curious... where does the "juggernaught" come from and was it really a class of ship in ancient times? Or, as I suspect, is it a designation we modern historians have dubbed for any super large ancient warship?Good point. I just got it from AoE, but I thought the same thing. Maybe a list like Bireme, Trireme, and Quinquereme would be better?
If you really wanted to be as historicaly accurate as possible, then you would use the actualy Latin names rather than the english versions.

Heres some ideas for the Romans:
Infantry Spearman- Triarius
Infantry Swordsman- Hastatus
Infantry Javelineer- Velite
Infantry Archer- Longbowman
Infantry Slinger- Slinger
Cavalry Spearman- Lancearii
Cavalry Swordsman- Cataphract
Cavalry Javelineer- ?
Cavalry Archer- Clibanarii
Infantry Super Unit- Legionary
Cavalry Super Unit- Equite
Big Ship- Juggernaught
Medium Ship- Trireme
Small Ship- Galley
Siege for Units- Ballista
Siege for Buildings- Siege Tower
Ram
Priest
Female Worker
Trader
I'll post some more civ ideas later.

So this document is basicaly the master plan of 0ad, every aspect of the game is described and listed in this file? Sounds pretty important, I can see why you would want to keep it confidential, at least for the time being. However, is there any chance we can see a list of units for each civ like in AoK or AoM?
-
So the Celts will have two fortresses? I though they were a single civ, not two.
-
Wouldnt a broch be more apropriate for a Celtic/Gallic fortress?
-
Will any of the Roman heroes be on horses, as none of the Roman hero concept drawings depict them on horses?
-
Believe me, I found a whole new, barbaric face to my religion while I was researching the next two articles. Very surprising, but expect more unbiased articles in this series to come.
-
This is only part 1, the introduction. The other two parts (comming soon) will be much more historicaly-based and include outside influences to Christianity such as Zoroastrianism.

I am very sure that the dark figure that climbed over the gate was a Nazgul. The Dark Figure climbs over the gate and into the shadows, and later when Merry is outside of the Inn, he sees a Nazgul in the shadows across from the Inn without a horse. I find it improbable that the dark figure was Strider. When the hobbits are in their room, Strider tries get in to see them, but is stopped by Butterbur. Strider would have had to come into the Inn right after them, and that is something I think they would have noticed.
