From what Paul has told me and what I could find on the net, he was mostly a a light cavalry skirmisher, relying on maneuverability to harass phalanx and heavier cav.
Ultimate/Elite level has sword, shield, and multiple javelins. Lower levels have only javelins for weapons. I think Paul said that even though Ultimate has a sword it won't be usuable in the game (but I might be wrong).
