  1. Crap.

So... what should I do? Just turn it off? And will I still be able to restart the Linux installation?

Just hit the restart button on your computer. If you don't have one, turn it off and turn it on. You should be able to restart the installation.

  2. The way I see it is that because of the Earth spinning, one should hit the ground nanoseconds before the other.

    That's what I was thinking.

    And also:

What direction was the wind blowing?

    How hard?

    ...

and this is why the probability of getting heads when you flip a coin doesn't always equal the probability of getting tails

  3. Install Firefox for them and replace the IE icon with a Firefox shortcut that has the IE icon on it, and configure Firefox to look + feel exactly like IE, and they won't notice the difference .

    Good idea.

But then the'd see the "Mozilla Firefox" thing at the top.

But wait.... the Firesomething Extension can make it say "Microsoft Internet Explorer"! w00t!

PS: I installed firefox on her computer a while ago, but she just doesn't use it.

  4. Let's say I want to say HELLO in 8-bit ASCII. That would be 0100100001000101010011000100110001001111. Now would I write that in base-10 as 310400273487 or 072069076076079 something else? I'm learning about RSA encryption and for some strange reason, everyone only encrypts one-character messages

  5. Decimals can be done in a base other than ten. For example consider 1/2 base 10. That is equal to 1/10 in base 2, or 0.1.

Very interesting. Also, it's interesting how on p. 11 of the Art of Problem Solving Volume 2, it tells how math really relates to music. Just one interesting paragraph:

Notes played together either "sound good" or they don't.  This sounding good corresponds to the frequency of one tone being a nice multiple of another.  Two tones an octave apart have frequencies differing by a factor of two, like middle C (256 Hz) and the next C up (512 Hz); two tones a major fifth apart have frequencies in the ratio 3/2, as C(256) and the next G up (384).  On the other hand, tones with nasty frequency ratios (say 31/17) sound displeasing, in part because the ear hears not only the two frequencies, but an artificial beat frequency resulting from the times when the two vibrations are in sync.

  6. And I was very very very pleased with Knoppix.

Don't you mean DSL, Darn Small Linux? DSL is made by Knoppix, but Knoppix has regular linux distrobution.

    About the signature:

I only copied one part - the GIMP part. I'm not sure where I got the quote, but it sounds like what a Microsoft salesman would say. Microsoft puts more effort into sales-pitch than they put into their actual products...

  7. 128MB seems good enough for me.

    128MB

-6MB (actual formatted capacity less lol)

    -88MB (linux)

    ============

34MB for school files! Pretty good...

EDIT: Darn! (small linux :( ) It only works for windows and Linux! And I have a mac! Oh well. I'll just use my mom's Windows laptop :(

  8. Oh those!

    So that's what they're called.

    :(

Really annoying how the FAQ on the Knoppix site is dead. Oh well. archive.org works.

lol... there is a Knoppix mirror at Purdue University which is within walking distance from my house.

funny... despite the fact it's so close, it's downloading at a ridiculously slow speed. currently 10kb/sec and it's still getting slower.

I'm trying another server. It shouldn't take that long, should it?

I usually download stuff from New York, New York, and it usually downloads at a speed of about 300KB/sec
