  1. Great website guys! It indefinately replaces the old "table" one. ;) And Mr. Hansen, nice 0 A.D. theme! You guys have just made a new fan!! :)

I also notice a little bit of the "Caesar III" piece of music (the beginning of the 0 A.D. theme) I was wondering if that was coincidence, or just my imagination...? ;)

Keep up the great work! And the Developement articles are a good read. Especially to newb game developers like myself.

    See ya!

  2. As soon as my application gets accepted (artists, essayists) than I'll be more than happy to do some concepts for the forces of darkness (morgoth, mountain orcs, sauron, saruman, haradrim, etc). I should also finish a concept for the application too. ;)

  3. TLA is a great and giant undertaking. You must understand that it WILL take time to make. Another "setback" is that it covers ALL of Tolkien's works. From the Silmarillion, to the Return of the King. If I'm not mistaken, the staff is also using the very informative "History of Middle Earth" or "HoME" to complete the civilization specs, and the many essays for the site.

Hope that helped to make you understand the momentous (but rewarding) task that the TLA staff is currently developing! ;)

  4. Meh. OK. And btw, you didn't intimidate me when you said "professional" I just felt that my artwork isn't good enough. Oh well, all I need is time. And I'm very dedicated to Tolkien's work. ;)

And btw, you might want to check your e-mail Adam. =]

    EDIT:

I was depressed with the orc, I drew, so I chucked it. Is there any specific civilization unit or hero that you want me to do? NOTE: I can't do buildings. ;)

I just can make a good looking building ANY day. =]

    Well, let me know. =]

  5. I'm in the process of completing the pencil work of an orc based off of "David Day's (might be wrong) Complete Guide To Middle Earth". I'd like to pen it, to make it look better. But I'll make two versions... one pencil, and one pen. Than I guess I'll post em' in here. I've also signed up for the "How did Morgoth and Sauron feed their armies?" contest.... just for the essayist bit.

Well. all for now! see ya. ;)

  6. Dear TLA Staff,

I was wondering if you'd be interested in hiring a decent pen/penciler for concept art. I'm also a pretty good Essayist. Note, I take time to make the things that I do look good. ;)=]

I'm also in the midst of reading Tolkien's literary works (FOTR, TTT, and RoTK).

If you are interested in hiring me, please let me know.

BTW, Here are the items that I could be doing for TLA...

+ concepts for evil side (Morgoth, Saruman, Sauron, Haradrim/Umbar)

    + essays on evil/light side

If you want me to do 2 items for a "iniation" for joining, I'd be more than happy to. =]

    Well, all for now.

  7. I was actually reading through some of your races/civilizations topics in your races/civilizations page. And I found out, that several civilizations are going to be able to acquire certain resources at a higher rate.

An example: the Dwarves are stronger than most civilizations, at acquiring Mithril. I understand that all civilizations will be able to acquire Mithril, but will it just be the Dwarves who can obtain it faster? ... What about Orcs? They're "expert" miners... look at Isengard!!! :P;) B-)

Now, how many resources will be available to EACH civilization in the game? ( Or are there specific resources that each civilization will be required to collect/gather? )

And finally, is their a way to contact Adam? Because he seems not to check his e-mail any more. ;)

Thanks! And keep up the great work on TLA!

  8. Well, the only real European languages that I know are of German and Spanish. My parents know Latin and French (very little). But I'm sure I can do research on them through Google, and than learn them.

I was also thinking about trying to use some early Gallic, or German, for my Evil language, any suggestions for that?

And Latin, and Spanish for Elves?

    Well, all for now.

  9. OK, I'm writing a book, and I have decided that I wanted to write my own alphabet, and language, just like Tolkien. I've done some research on Norwegian language, but I've stumbled upon the words of Tolkien and Wagner. So, I scratched that off. I wanted to use the Norwegian language and mythology to make my own race of the Dwarves. (y)

Does anyone have any suggestions on the languages I should use? (I'm trying not to get sued here, come on. :P )

And I understand that other people have used Elves, Orcs, Goblins, Trolls, etc... in their own books, I'm guessing that it's safe for me than right?

Also, I'm coming up with my own characters, places (my own map), and a bunch of other rare and neat stuff for my "unique" book.

    Please help. :)

  10. Hello TLA Community,

I've been a fan of Tolkien ever since the movies came out (hence, I don't have a mental picture of Arda, when one reads the actuall literature). However, I just started the Two Towers book. And I find it quite easy to read, and picture the descriptions that Tolkien of key places and people. I am currently on Chapter 2: The Riders of Rohan, where Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas find the five Orcs of the north dead.

I would also like to point out, that I can attempt some concepts for games, and do game design, along with campaigns, and scenarios. But I must tell you this first, I am the leader and founder of a freeware/commercial gaming company similar to WFG. My gaming company is entitled Black Water Games.

Our first project is currently named Imperium Historia (IH). IH is a real time strategy game that covers the rise of human river civilizations (3000 BC) to the fall of the Roman empire, and the reconquest of the east, by the Byzantine empire (600 AD).

I'd give you the link, but we're currently squabbling over a topic in our forums, and I want that to be cleared out by Monday (07-19-04). God, being leader of a gaming company makes me want to do this to my PC... :P

I would like to congratulate all of the people from WFG who are working on this excellent and most facinating project, based on Tolkien's Arda, and who are doing a magnificent job in completing it.

    Well, all for now.

    See ya.
