  1. Just use this command:

    git clone git://git.code.sf.net/p/aristeia/code bronze

That will download the git repository into a folder 'bronze'. Make a link to this folder in the 0ad mod folder and play the game using

    0ad -mod=bronze

    or

    pyrogenesis -mod=bronze

  2. Wow, those siege engines sure look destructive!

I don't know about the ships.

The unit icons clearly show which ones are stronger and would look beautiul, but may be harder to distinguish at a glance.

The other ones a really boring ... but would be easier to learn ...

  3. need more people with Documentation. and not, Idawin we must ask for Models to lordgood.

I'm waiting for him to do the UV's xD

That's the most time-consuming part of 3D modelling.

UV-wrapping someone else's model is like ... taking someone else's clothes of. It's a really uncomfortable thing to do when you've got little experience and it often turns out to be harder than expected (that might have something to do with it being dark and with those bizarre clothings that should - imho - be shipped with a manual). Anyway, back to 3D modelling.

I'll ask LordGood to send me his models, and also if he's still planning to UV-unwrap them.

  4. I have a big question to throw out there:

Seeing as the Nubians were not that important in the grand scheme of things, I think it might be best for now to just include them as a branch of Egyptians or as Egyptian mercenaries. If they are mercenaries, that pyramid model can be used in the editor... I think we should be focusing on the Phoenicians and regular Egyptians before we start work on the more minor civilizations.

I had Nubian mercenaries in mind (they were the reason Egypt had such good archers), but seeing as they were not included in the design document I didn't know what to do with them.

    More epic shields!!!

    Wow Lion, that's amazing!

  5. Beside that, I don't really see the benefit. How would I e.g. be able to remind the differences of the arabic name of two units?

True, not saying making a font is easy, but making a latin font is something an artist can do on his own, making a chinese font must be ... crazy.

If I'm not mistaken, this is our standard font: http://dejavu.sf.net.../DejaVuSans.pdf (PDF)

It supposedly supports "Greek" script, which I assume is identical to Ancient Greek?

    Yup.

You always have the generic name beneath.

  6. It's true that for some civilisations this could become a problem ... but we could say that we already have this problem ^^ all civilisations except the romans have their names written in the wrong alphabet xD

Depending on how difficult this is, this could - I believe - be a worthwhile addition to the game.

BTW, I retitle the post to something more general.

would we have to create an entirely new typeface

Not necessarily; we could just have an image for each building/unit,

we could make a typeset with only the necessary letter,

or we could use existing typefaces for these alphabets (where available)...

  7. Yeah, but I don't know what units should get that shield...

Do we have a sea peoples design document? I can't find any.

Anyway: the egyptians are semi-playable (with placeholders)

(their buildings are persian at the moment, but we'll replace them one by one)
