  1. Anthony, thanks for taking the time to post all of this valuable information in a format that could easily be used by the design of a game. Unfortunately, much of what we have based the design of the Celt is based on interpretations of Celtic history books (by myself) - and looking for specific information for the purposes of the game that sometimes didn't exist. It is sort of a 'best guess' by an amateur Celtic enthusiast (me).

I believe you filled out an application form, but we would be happy to have you review our Celtic material/design within the game to check for accuracy. In most cases I wager we could accommodate, but 0 A.D. is intended to be a game which sometimes clashes with ideas of what a historical simulation would look like. We would value your input

  2. Here is an idea to troubleshoot, if you have a Nvidia card, sometimes the newer drivers have some messed up video overlay settings that you need to go in the advanced panel and return to default. That might correct the problem.

But, if that was the problem it would be on other .avi videos you play with windows media player too. So, play another .avi and see if you still have the problem. If you do, try tweaking the video overlay settings.

  3. The assistant producer job is a hard position to write up a description for because the scope of responsibilities varies greatly day to day. What this job is NOT, is a high position of authority to order others around to do your bidding. What the job is, is serving the team members to facilitate communication, instruction, training, guidance, and direction. This allows the other team members to keep their focus on their specific jobs, while you take care of tasks that would otherwise tie their hands. Examples of day to day activities might involve:

    • Review and route incoming job applications
    • Review team tasks/milestones and provide feedback and encouragement
    • Conflict resolution
    • Schedule and task to maintain focus to reach milestones
    • Help integrate new members to the project
    • Organize meetings

Jumping into a project that is already in development is tough for any position, but it would be especially difficult to do as an assistant producer. We are also looking for a positive, nonabrasive, and charismatic personality that has a good memory and good organizational skills. If you're up for the job, and interested in learning more - please fill out an application.

Download The Video (11.7 mb - 1 min.)

Wildfire Games is proud to announce the release of a video featuring gameplay from 0 A.D., a historical real-time strategy game currently under development. This is the first dynamic glimpse of our flagship title in its present state.

When completed, 0 A.D. will be released to the public for free, with absolutely no strings attached.

The game is powered by Pyrogenesis, a game engine built from the ground up by Wildfire Games. 0 A.D. is being developed by an all-volunteer, all-online team with members from five continents and numerous countries such as the United Kingdom, Belgium, Australia, the Netherlands, Sweden, Canada, Denmark, and the United States. A fun, yet focused, atmosphere brings the team members together to complete the serious task of producing 0 A.D.

We are constantly recruiting more members. If you are inspired by the work completed so far, we encourage you to visit the 0 A.D. website and find out how you can get involved (Applications are HERE). Wildfire Games is looking (Job Openings are HERE) for self motivated, ambitious, skilled programmers and artists who thrive in a team environment. If you can program, script, animate, or model and have a love of video games and an eye on learning new skills in a diverse and determined group of likeminded individuals, then check out the Wildfire Games website to learn more about the game and apply to the team! Several of our members have gone on to lucrative careers in the game industry, while others have further honed and rounded their technical abilities, adding valuable entries to their demo discs and portfolios. You could be thrust into the thick of game development before you know it.

As the great Roman poet Virgil wrote, “Fortune favors the bold!” - 0 A.D. is as bold as it gets.

Thank you for your continued support of the project. We welcome you to visit for more information in the future reguarding special community releases such as this. If you have trouble with the video, try downloading the XviD codec HERE. If all else fails, THIS link to the smaller resolution video on Google Video should work. Share this news with your friends and help spread the word about 0 A.D.!

  5. Are you interested in understanding what programming and scripts goes into making a game actually function as a game? If so, this is a position that might interest you. The primary goal of this position is to comprehend the vision of the game as interpreted by internal game design documentation, and implement that. Some examples might be: Implementing the mechanics behind trade, garrisoning, and construction of structures. The scripter's job is no less important. They are the ones that take the newly written exposed functions and assign them to various entities. You essentially are writing the rules for the game that runs behind the scenes. Languages you will be using are: C++, Javascript, XML (Scripter only the later two). Send in your application and we will be happy to answer any questions you might have.

  6. Artificial intelligence for an RTS game is a critical component. We are seeking an individual that has an interest in AI and is driven to implement it on a larger scale than common tech demos. The AI in 0 A.D. is multifaceted and requires work on many fronts. The AI needs to competitively function in singleplayer, multiplayer, and on randomly generated maps. Pathfinding, Computer Player AI (backend for scripting), Scripting, and Basic unit level AI are a few examples. If this sounds like it might interest you, send in your application and questions and we'll get back to you.

  7. The primary job is creating textures for 3D models from a concept or reference image. Experience in a photo editing software such as Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, or Gimp is desired. The ability to work with layers, advanced functions and tools, work with alpha layers, and various plugins is also desired. 3D experience is not required (but helpful) and unwrapped wireframe maps can be provided if the user does not have 3D software to extract the uv map template. Various methods may be used to create the textures such as original source photography, or wacom tablet. References and concepts will be provided. Examples of work would include: body textures (armor, tunics, breastplates), weapons, helmets, trees, plants, animals (cavalry accessories).
