  1. hmm... i must say i like routing though... makes me feel things are more real... i mean, no matter what commander (dare i say god) u represent, you can get a more realistic feel if the units start to disobey you and start running wild (whether away from the enemy, or at them) without your commands...

    for me, it gives a more sense of reality, that these units have personalities and individual AI rather than just being puppets in a game...

  2. Hey mates, im trying to learn to do some JSP programming... now the mac comes with apache as default and installed... its got a website for everyuser... so i created a simple helloWorld.jsp file which contains:

    <html>
    <head>
    <title>My first JSP page
    </title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <%@ page language="java" %>
    <% out.println("Hello World"); %>
    </body>
    </html>

    And then i placed it in the server directory... i went to http://localhost/~seth (the directory for my personal server) and then clicked on helloWorld.jsp, but my browser prints out the contents (ie: <html><head>, etc) of the file and not an output...

    So is this the fault of the browser (Camino) or the webserver or what?

  3. I voted release. I'm not a huge Star Wars enthusiast, but its the way I saw them, and I don't think it would be the same. They made the first three because the fans wanted them to add to the story, not explain it. 4 is the real first episode. The first three are just like the Hobbit is to LOTR.

    hmm... i agree... even though people are still voting more for story sequence... ill leave it till the whole saga ships to me on dvd and then we'll see

  4. Hey mates... i wanna introduce my gf to the world of star wars (dont ask how she never saw it, and how we are together since i saw it around 87367856 times, i dont know myself)... however, i was always thinking... how should i do that? she already IS interested, but i dont know which order i should show her the movies?

    1. Original Sequence[which off course means 4->5->6->1->2->3]

    Pros:being surprised when vader says "i am your FATHER", which is like... one of the coolest points ever... and off course, the part in ep3 where "Rise, Lord VADER" and vader's first ever breaths... not ever understanding how "your father killed me" and THEN understanding it

    cons:having to explain to my gf why we're starting at no.4

    2. story sequence[1->2->...->6]

    Pros:mmm, feels more like a real coherent story... not having to explain anything about the sith or where they came from, etc... more user friendly

    Cons:losing all those tingly feeling moments mentioned above

    So, whatcha think? please gimme ur vote...

  5. Hey mates, as u might have heard from my many ramblings, ive developed a major interest in opengl... mostly because GFx is the most interesting thing in the world, along with AI and security and cryptography... and anything else electronic (y):D... and also because of how cross-platform i found it to be (more than i expected, and more than the horrible horrible DirectX)

    ANYWAY, i know how textures are loaded and then mapped onto figures in opengl, but i wanna ask... how do u know how (or more specifically where) to draw anything? i mean, when ur talking boxes and pyramids, that is easy, but how about models like wfg's chars, etc? how can u paint textures for that?

    do u like place a texture that looks like some map, stick it onto the model and then reverse from there? or what other method do u use in order to know where to draw the certain parts of the texture?

  6. Hey mates,

    Now im really just starting up to learn OpenGL programming (just reading some online tutorials, waiting for books from amazon) so i just wanted to check out something...

    now i heard that opengl 3.0 has been announced officially, which (as far as i can tell) means it maybe coming out soon... so i wanna know what happens when openGL 3 comes out... what would it mean for me as a user? i know there might definitely be some driver upgrades and stuff for the cards, and downloading libs & a newer sdk, etc for developing with new feats...

    but will that also mean buying new GFx cards? my main concern is, im looking into buying a laptop with some powerful GFx cards (my choice is the mac pro), so should i wait till opengl 3 comes out and with it updated cards? or will it be a totally SW upgrade?

    again, sorry if this looks like a complete n00b question (y)

    [EDIT:] I found this site (the inquirer) that had an article about OpenGL3.0, which said:

    But what is going on with OpenGL right now is nothing short of exciting. After all the mumble of OpenGL 2.0 and its delays, this year will see no less than two new versions of this venerable API. First one that is coming out soon is Longs Peak (OpenGL 2.x), which is a major clean-up of the code after almost a decade and a half of nothing else but stacking numerous extensions together.

    This API is supposed to arrive in summer timeframe, most probably July. Approximately three months after that, Mount Evans (OpenGL 3.0) will run specifically on hardware born after November 8th, 2006. You've guessed it correctly, we are talking about DirectX 10-class hardware, bringing all the features of unified 3D architecture to the world of OpenGL. Mount Evans is compatible with Longs Peak, but of course - you will require OpenGL 3.0 class hardware to run everything

    so does that mean it'll be a SW only update? i mean, it will run on my old HW, but wont be pulling much FPS?

  7. Amateur Opinion #2

    Well i think as far as the OS is concerned, go XP. Wait at least another year b4 u switch to vista. Vista is too much of a memory hog and although its supposed to worl great with games, so far too many problems. *kinda like the 360 eh? xD*

    And i wouldnt get a laptop for gaming. I rather use a desktop. But thats just me. Laptops are great for work/school. But not really gaming unless u wanna spend a decent amount of money.

    Now as far as vista is concerened, if u do get it, get at least 3gb of memory. That way u will run smoothly.

    couldnt have said it better myself... or... you could also get a cheap laptop (one for only doc/code stuff ie: not much GFX power) and perhaps also an iMac with boot-camping XP? thats the way id go
