I apologize for being a noob, but where is the public? In the game files? Edit: Never mind. It is in the files. I found it.
-
Is there a file of ingame shields, helmet, and weapons to choose from that I can look at?
-
So the Seleucids are supposed to be a cav faction? Interesting. In that case, can we replace the Median cav with a more hellenistic cav, like Tarantine cav or something?
-
YES! The garb description nailed it. Phyrgian helm; bearded, with cuirass.
-
The marian legionaire armour looks similar to the one in the picture above. A cuirass could work as well.
-
Question; what do the Macedonian hypapists have weapon wise? The Seleucids also used them as an elite unit, but they were more of hoplites, with a hoplon and a dory. So switching the Cataphract's helmet will be easier thrn re-doing its armour?
-
Does that make it easier? Like just switching around model parts?
-
Yes! Exactly!
-
No, the beared helmet that the silver shields already have. That macedoniam style one.
-
Okay, how do I upload a picture? It keeps saying that I'm not allowed to use "this type of exetention" in this community.
-
These all look gorgeous, but is there a finished phygirian helm, the successor bearded ones, because those would look great on Chalkaspides or possibly a Kataphractoi or Hetaroi variation.
-
Thats a great roster. Will more mercs be involved in vanilla?
-
According to research on the Seleucid army; Grecogalatian mercs were a HUGE part of a Seleucid army. Thracians, Bactrians, Galatians, and Cretans were a large portion. Yup. Thats more accurate.
-
I definately agree.
-
I think that the current model looks like the byzantine cataphract, doesnt the Seleucid cataphract look like just a very heavy greek cav? Likea crazy armoured Thessalian cav?
-
Seems legit. I have read that silver shield legionaires were used to protect the flanks of the silver sjield pikes.
-
So, not Romanized Swords?
-
Well, all of the Seleucid cavalry (minus the Hikkapontensis Polites) are VERY eastern in appearance. I believe that is not very accurate. While there were a few Eastern based units (which is why I suggest you keep the Dahae horse archers) the Seleucids were still very greek. I think more greek roster would be appropriate. This is also why I suggested the replacement of the Thracians with Thorax Swords (Thorakites) and the introduction of the mercenary Bactrian Hoplite, because the Pikemen, Legionaires/Swords, and merc Hoplites were quite important in Seleucid armies. Hypapist Hoplites were also an important flank guard to the Argyraspides Corps.

Well, the Seleucids were the ONLY of the Diadochi kingdoms to successfully resist Roman invasion. I have always loved the Greeks, and my second favorite is the Spartans, but I think that the Seleucids being able to resist Rome is incredible. Also, I started liking the Seleucids a while back because I wanted to eventually get RomeII Total War, but I wasn't certain if I would be able to get the Greek States DLC so I could play Sparta. I started looking at other factions, and I already had a bias against Macedon, but I found the Seleucids. I started playing them in Rome I Total War, and fell in love with the Legionaire/Phalanx combo. I have loved the faction ever since. And yes, my logo is the Seleucid logo from RomeII that I turned green instead of blue.

Now, a question for the developers; what is left to finish on this faction? This is so we can haveideas what to discuss.
-
First suggestions: roster switch around. I would suggest that the thracians from the military colony, replace them with Thorax swords (Thorakites), remove this from the colonies build quene, and replace the mounted javalineer from the barracks. In the thracians place in the colonys quene, replace it with Bactian hopolites, or a more local mercenary.
-
Because i play the Seleucid faction a lot (those of you who have seen me around the forum know this) and even though my modeling and animation skills, while there, are quite limited. So I will just give ideas, if the developers wish to listen, and i will be honoured if you all would help me help the developers finish this glorious faction.

Okay. Thorakitai are a Seleucid version of a very heavy thureophoroi swords. Capable of both irregular warfare and phalanx warfare, they were just very heavy thureophoroi. Name literaly translates to cuirassiers. In 0ad, I suggest they would be used to replace the Thracians, but they were also spearmen, and heavy peltasts. Basically a Seleucid heavy multitool.

Just checked, I believe with a linothorax it would still be a Thureos, but if it had a cuirass, it would be a Thorakites. Just the source I found.
