It might have been someone else but I remember that amazed that no one else seemed to think that the fire of orthanc was some kind of explosive

I don't recall the elves having uniforms in the book, so wouldn't they use a variety of armor?

Personaly I think the reason some people get rubbed the wrong way by Israel is because they are very much a survivalist nation. They don't want to take any chances. Not even for peace. So many people want that nation of the face of the earth that they have to try to stay dominant in the area. Without U.S. military aid, Israel would be in trouble.

Yeah it's not that wierd. Many answers to questions about Middle Earth can be found by looking at our Earth. The Nations are pretty much the same.
Easterlings, Southrons, etc. These are all like in our world (pretty much anyway).

Wow, that is fascinating.
To me it is amazing how so few such seemingly contradictory statments there are in Tolkiens works even after such close scrutiny over the many years since they were published. So things like this don't bother me too much.

As I recall Adam in our original debate you didn't think it was an explosive, do I remember right?

Yeah, the armor doesn't look much like the armor Tolkien describes. I really liked when Aragorn is putting on his chain mail and gear. I was thinking, this is how their armor is supposed to be.

Russel Crowe is a Captain of a warship in the 1800's and they are hunting some other ship. I don't really know the whole story. It is based on a Historical Novel

This is too hard.
I like the Ancient, Classical Times, Dark Ages, Middle Ages
Then I like 1700-1945
I would have to say if I had to make a choice it would be the Middle Ages.
