Actually it doesn't change because 0ad doesn't have 'ages'. We just were talking about this.. here is a quote:

I don't like to view them as 'Ages' because of the fact that we have seasons it doesn't make sense that you can warp through time in ages while durring the progression of the game you can make up for 500 years of technology in just 30 min of game play (roughly 2 seasons - depending on your settings).

We are instead refering to them as population growth stages. You will find them very similar in terms of the Ao_ games though. Basically the purpose of ages in Ao_ are break techs, buildings, and units up into different stages or levels. We are doing the same thing.

So that is one reason why not graphical changes. The other reason which is probably the more important is the extra added size to the download size of the game.
