Darksun
I'm on a mac and my friends have pc. We haven't been able to connect to each other using the MP server.
sanderd17
There is no MP server. Anyone who starts a game becomes the server, and needs to allow incoming connections. Unless you mean you can't connect to the chat server. So some questions: how do you try to connect (via the lobby or via direct ip)? Are you and your friends on the same network, or on different networks? At what point does the connection fail, and what message do you see?
Darksun
Thanks for replying! I appreciate it. It's three of us (2 on pc and 1 on mac). We tried playing together inside the same house/same internet connection. We tried connecting through the lobby. Each of us created an account and connected to the lobby. One of us hosted a game (we took turns) and the rest of us tried connecting by clicking "join" on the hosted game. We would get as far as "connecting to server/game" but the loading fails after 1 minute or two. The game says connection failed: unknown error. auron2401
Well, i run linux, and i've connected to several Windows hosts, (and visa-versa)Maybe it's a thing with mac?Or also, does the person(s) hosting have their ports forwarded? (check the lobby announcement thing on the far right for the correct one)
Yves
We tried playing together inside the same house/same internet connection. We tried connecting through the lobby.I don't think this is supported at the moment. You share the same public IP address when you use the same internet connection. If you want to play LAN games, you should do it this way:One player hosts using "Multiplayer->Host Game" from the main menu The others connect to his internal IP address using "Multiplayer->Join Game" from the main menuThe internal IP is something like 192.168.1.5 (4 numbers between 0 and 255 separated by dots). You can get it with the ipconfig command on Windows or ifconfig on the Mac (if I remember correctly). This is different from the public IP address which you can get if you browse to this website for example (you don't need this address in your case): http://whatismyip.org/

historic_bruno
Also, in case it's relevant, multiplayer is slightly broken in Alpha 18 for OS X 10.7-10.8. For 10.7, it will instantly crash, and for 10.8 there will be an instant OOS. Newer versions should be fine though, and these issues will be fixed in the next release.
