Citizen-Soldiers and Female Citizens

With the new technology to upgrade Citizen-Soldiers ranks from the Barracks, I'm starting to wonder if I should just use Female Citizens to gather resources instead of both.

How much more effective are Citizen-Soldiers at gathering resources compared to Female Citizens? Does anyone know the exact percentage?

Thanks

You can always read the actual templates.

Typical Females: http://trac.wildfiregames.com/browser/ps/trunk/binaries/data/mods/public/simulation/templates/template_unit_support_female_citizen.xml#L59

Typical Males: http://trac.wildfiregames.com/browser/ps/trunk/binaries/data/mods/public/simulation/templates/template_unit_infantry.xml#L65

But it becomes worse when they upgrade. See the Athen Elite Archer: http://trac.wildfiregames.com/browser/ps/trunk/binaries/data/mods/public/simulation/templates/units/athen_infantry_archer_e.xml#L22

It's baseSpeed is reduced to 0.5. Which means it gathers resources only half as fast as the basic infantry unit.

The actual stats might differ a bit per civ, but this will be the general trend.

There are apparently two values that govern gathering resources, Rates and BaseSpeed. The bonuses to the Rates for each unit type are as follows, Female Citizens have a 50% bonus to foraging and farming, Citizen-Soldiers have a 5% bonus to woodcutting and a 25% bonus to quarrying and mining, and Cavalry Citizen-Soldiers have a 400% bonus to hunting and herding, but can only hunt and herd. The BaseSpeed is the value effected by the promotion, so Advanced Citizen-Soldiers are 25% less efficient at gathering resources than Basic Citizen-Soldiers, and Elite Citizen-Soldiers are 25% less efficient at gathering resources than Advanced Citizen-Soldiers (50% less efficient that Basic Citizen-Soldiers). I never bother using Citizen-Soldiers for woodcutting, I didn't even know about the woodcutting bonus until I looked it up just now.

Note: These stats are all in the ResourceGatherer section of the following files in public/simulation/templates directory, template_unit_support_female_citizen.xml, template_unit_infantry.xml, and template_unit_cavalry.xml. In order to look at these files you need a text editor like Notepad++.

Yeah just looking at these stats it's clear to me that it's easier to boom with females, infantry is something I see giving a big early game boost to the economy but once you start looking for a standard army you needa rely on farming and trading to generate resources.

Totally agree with this.

so Advanced Citizen-Soldiers are 25% less efficient at gathering resources than Basic Citizen-Soldiers, and Elite Citizen-Soldiers are 25% less efficient at gathering resources than Advanced Citizen-Soldiers (50% less efficient that Basic Citizen-Soldiers).

Ooh this math hurts. Take 1, subtract 25%, you're at 0.75. Subtract 25% again and you're at 0.56.

The elite is 50% less effective than basic. Period.

For completeness, I think it's good to produce some infantry at the start of the game for gathering. So you can fend off a rush (or at least have a chance), but after researching the promotion techs, you probably shouldn't gather with them anymore.
