We'd have to look at the details, but your opponent probably sniped your archers while your archers overkilled other units.

Unless you're doing some clinical testing, it's hard to imagine both sides were absolutely equal? Number and consistence of the armies, formation and positions, terrain, tech upgrades,... My guess would be the upgrades in such situations.
