Hello world

Recommended Posts

Well... hello.

In advance, sorry for any mistakes in my English, but it's not my native language and my English teachers, umm.. let's say they didn't teach me much.

My real name is Peter, but I prefer to call me with my nickname, which is Mack as you may already know. At the moment I'm 20.

I spent hundreds ( if not thousands ) of hours with AoE series and probably even more with CIV, which I'm still playing ( C2C on SP and AND on MP with friends ). Kinda I always preferred games, where you have to think instead of blowing up hordes of enemies with zombie-like-IQ with some overpowered octa-barreled rocket launcher. Probably that's why I love TBS games even more then RTS. I even have my dream kind-of-TBS game I wish to create someday, but I guess that's not really important. I also love to listen to the music always when I can. Don't ask me about genres, because I like almost everything from Classical Mozart or Vivaldi to Viking Metal like Ensiferum or Amon Amarth. I love your soundtrack as well, especially 5th track called Peaks of Atlas.

Besides of that, I'm an programmer with 5 - 6 years ( depends if you count html in ) experience and that's most probably why I decided to register in here. I love how this game looks and the way in which it is created. I love it so much that I would like to participate in the process of it's creation. Through years of journey through the jungles of debugger and deserts of code optimization I managed to gather some experience in mentioned html, PHP, C# and C++, but I have some cons as well. Worst is I haven't wrote single line of code using OpenGL yet, so I guess I'd have to learn some basics of it or I could focus on other tasks.

Actually I have one question. How do you manage deadlines ? Are there any or everybody works in their own pace ?

And thank you for doing great job, I hope I will provide my own brick to this house.

Almost forgot to mention, I found about your game on NeHe's blog.

It's a bit of both, we try to set some rough deadlines etc, but in the end/specifics it comes down to when people have time to work on the game. We do work with the intention of releasing a new Alpha every 2-3 months or so, but the exact release date often varies a lot depending on: how long it takes to implement a specific big feature we really want to include (and which we think is reasonable to assume can be finished during the release cycle), if there are any release blocker bugs remaining (bugs which render the game unplayable for a large number of people), and more specifically on when the people creating the actual release files have time to do so :)

NeHe's blog? Would be nice with a URL :)

I see. Well, that's how I actually expected it to be. I guess I'll do some research on code right away as I'm really curious how it is done. Only thing I have done so far is test-build in VC2010.

Oh and I edited my first post, so now there is a link.

Welcome to the forums Mack. Developers are always welcome to contribute :)

Thank you : )

Cool. In case you haven't found it already (assuming you have, but still, better to be too obvious than to make it hard for people unnecessarily) a lot of useful information can be found on the wiki: http://trac.wildfiregames.com/ and more specifically: http://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/GettingStarted and http://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/GettingStartedProgrammers

I'm already digging through those, but thank you for help intentions : ) Actually I added one obvious fix into "Known problems and solutions" category of Build Instructions wiki page. I don't know if administrator have to review or it's already visible, but I hope it's helpful.
