paczek
I would like units to be automatically selected when they leave a ship, as it can be difficult to select them all in the chaos of battle and groups behave weirdly with ships. Is it better to make a mod or a PR for this? Edited September 19 by paczek
Obelix Posted Sunday at 10:54 Report Share Posted Sunday at 10:54 Hi paczek, welcome back to the forums! I understand your approach. Personally I like it more to have the ship selected after unloading units, because then I can reorder the ship to another place. Therefore I'd suggest implementing a new option in the settings where players can decide whether they like the auto-selection of unloaded units or ongoing selection of the ship. Another question is, which setting should be the default one. If an implementation into the main game becomes possible, the Gameplay Discussion forum would be the right place for a request for comments. As far as I understand the development of 0 A.D., this would qualify for a pull request. Best wishes, obelix
Deicide4u Posted Sunday at 12:18 Report Share Posted Sunday at 12:18 I don't see the value in this. Find a safe landing spot for your army, or create one with your navy. Landing them in the middle of the enemy's base should be punishable.
Classic-Burger Posted Sunday at 14:32 Report Share Posted Sunday at 14:32 How would this work in steps?
paczek Posted Sunday at 14:43 Author Report Share Posted Sunday at 14:43 @Deicide4uOn some maps there is a limited number of places where it's possible to unload units and it's easy for the player to have them all protected. And even on safe ground it may be difficult to select all of your units so I think it's a nice QOL feature. @Classic-Burger1. You move your ship to the shore 2. You unload your units 3. The unloaded units are now selected
Classic-Burger Posted Sunday at 14:48 Report Share Posted Sunday at 14:48 It would be more practical to just select the destination and have it appear as you say. Basically merge steps 2 and 3.
paczek Posted Sunday at 14:56 Author Report Share Posted Sunday at 14:56 (edited) Another idea that came to my mind after writing this post was to add a new button for unloading and selecting to the ship ui. Obelix
In general I wouldn't oppose a special button or hotkey—if there's enough place for that in the GUI. I guess you will answer with QOL, but what hinders you to add your troops to a control group (CTRL+<0-9>) before garrisoning the ship with them? Then send your ship to the destination press U (unload all) followed by <0-9>?
paczek
You cant modify the group an unit belongs to once its on the ship, and you also can not see it in the group. This makes it difficult to keep track of the units and groups and also makes it hard to intuitively know what will happen if you try to for example merge groups that have garrisoned units in them. It might be better to change how control groups work instead, but this feature would be much easier to implement and adds some QOL.

We did it like this for more than 25 years. In the 90's, control groups were the killer feature. Now, we have things like auto-scouting. Kids don't even want to play the game anymore, just watch pretty pictures.
