Hi, how to improve playthrough experience and why is there no option to select all units?

Hi @Bumek, one mod that aims to improve playthrough experience and does have the feature to select all units is ModernGUI. In this mod simply clicking on population counter select all units; and there are a lot of added clickable graphical elements that can make sens like this.
As well you might to check Autociv that adds a lot of very useful hotkeys and options.

You mean, all military units, like in Starcraft 2? It doesn't exist because most military units in this game are also your economic units. 

You can assign a control group to your CS and use Shift+Alt while mousing over any new units to add them to that control group. Then, just use Call to Arms hotkey when needed to send them to attack move some area.

This was ported recently, if you want hotkeys, as an alternative to autociv (that is also available from mod downloader).
